Sporting Clube da Praia Cruz is a professional football club that plays in the São Tomé and Príncipe Championship. The team is based in the island of São Tomé. The team has won eight national and six island titles and is the third team in history to claim its first title in 1982. Taça Regional de Príncipe, literally the Príncipe Regional Cup is the regional association football knockout tournament of the island of São Tomé, it was created in 1998. The winner competes with the São Tomé Cup winner in the São Tomé and Príncipe Cup. All of its finals matches are played at Estádio 13 de Julho at the furthermost area of the island capital. FC Porto Real is the current cup winner which won the 2017 title.
The 2015 São Tomé First Division took place that season. The club was had 10 clubs and appeared in that number for the last time, the competition began in June and finished on 19 November. Geographically almost all clubs but Neves that took part in the Premier Division were in the east. Sporting Praia Cruz won the title and went on to participate in the national championships for the seventh time in November. Sporting Praia Cruz were first crowned as champions on October 26, a round before the season ended. A total of 90 matches were played and 231 goals were scored.
The 2017 São Tomé First Division was the competition of the Santomean Football Federation's São Tome section that took place that season. The club had 12 clubs. the competition began in 22 April and finished on 29 October. Geographically all clubs that took part in the Premier Division were in the east and almost all but UDRA were in the northeast where the regional and national capital is located. UDRA won their second and recent title and almost a month later headed to the national champions to win their national title.
