Tamil literature includes a collection of literary works that have come from a tradition spanning more than two thousand years. The oldest extant works show signs of maturity indicating an even longer period of evolution. Contributors to the Tamil literature are mainly from Tamil people from south India, including the land now comprising Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Eelam Tamils from Sri Lanka, as well as the Tamil diaspora.

In 2005, the newspaper was acquired from K. P. K. Kumaran by Kalanithi Maran's Sun Group.
The Kalaimamani is the highest civilian award in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. These awards are given by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, a unit of the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu, to recognise artists in the state for their achievements.

He was an educationist, an industrialist and a philanthropist. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
Ganesan, known professionally as Delhi Ganesh, is an Indian actor who mostly acts in supporting roles in Tamil cinema and serials. He has acted in more than 400 films from 1976 to present. Before films, he was a member of the Delhi-based theatre troupe, Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha. Ganesh served in the Indian Air Force from 1964 to 1974 before quitting in favour of films. He was given the stage name Delhi Ganesh by K. Balachander.
Si. Balasubramania Athithan 27 September 1905 – 24 May 1981), popularly called as "Adithanar", was an Indian lawyer, politician, minister and founder of the Tamil daily newspaper Dina Thanthi. He was the founder of the We Tamils party. He served as a member of the Madras Legislative Council for two terms and as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for four terms. He was the Speaker of the Assembly during 1967–68 and Tamil Nadu's minister for Cooperation in the M. Karunanidhi cabinets of 1969 and 1971. In his memory, two Tamil literary awards were created and are awarded annually by his son, Sivanthi Adithanar.

Kovi Manisekaran was an Indian Tamil scholar, film director and actor. He was awarded Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his historical novel Kutrala Kurinji in 1992.
"Erode" Tamilanban, also spelled as Erode Tamizhanban, is a Tamil poet and writer from Tamil Nadu, India. In 2004, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his poetry collection Vanakkam Valluva . He has also worked as a newsreader for Doordarshan. Pulavar Pulamaipithan was an Indian scholar, poet and lyricist who got recognition through the song "Naan yaar nee yaar" which was featured in the Tamil film Kudiyirundha Koyil in 1968. He briefly served as the presidium chairman of AIADMK from 2002 to 2003, when he resigned citing ill-health.

Nenjil Or Aalayam is a 1962 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film directed, produced and written by C. V. Sridhar. The film stars Kalyan Kumar, Devika and R. Muthuraman while Nagesh, Manorama and Kutty Padmini play supporting roles. The original soundtrack album and background score were composed by Viswanathan–Ramamoorthy, while the lyrics for the songs were written by Kannadasan.
Praptham (transl. Destiny) is a 1971 Indian Tamil-language film, directed and produced by Savitri. The film stars Sivaji Ganesan and Savitri. It is a remake of the 1964 Telugu film Mooga Manasulu. The film was released on 14 July 1971, and became a box-office bomb, causing a massive impediment in Savitri's career and leading to her downfall.
S. P. Adithanar Senior Tamil Scholar Award, is presented annually to recognize senior Tamil scholar for their lifetime contribution. It was instituted by Daily Thanthi groups in the memory of S. P. Adithanar, founder of Daily Thanthi. The award is presented on anniversary celebration of S.P. Adithanar every year at Rani Seethai Hall. It is presented in the name of Mootha Thamizharingnar for their literary contribution, which consists of 3 Lakh rupees prize money.
Nenjil Oru Mull is a 1981 Indian Tamil-language film written and directed by Mathi Oli Shanmugam. A remake of the Hindi film Kati Patang (1971), which in turn was based on the 1948 novel I Married a Dead Man by Cornell Woolrich, it stars Poornima Jayaraman and Pratap. The film was released on 11 December 1981.
