Thangar Bachan (born 1961) is an Indian film director and actor, cinematographer and novelist. He has served as jury member in National Film Awards. [1]

Early life

Thankar Bachan was born in Pathirakottai, a village near Panruti, Cuddalore district, Tamil Nadu. [2] [ citation needed ]

Career

Bachan started his career as a cinematographer in debut film Malai Charal. He was known for his work in Mogamul and Bharathi . He made his directorial debut in Azhagi .

Apart from films he occasionally contribute on literary works. His novels include Onbathu Roobai Nottu and Ammavin Kai Pesi. He eventually made these novel into films in his own direction.

Thankar Bachan was known for his contribution in portraying North Tamil Nadu villages which was not depicted in Tamil cinema properly. His story plots were set mostly at Panruti and surrounding villages. After Bharathiraja, villages were best portrayed in Thangar Bachan movies. Bharathiraja himself declared that after him Bachan directs the best village films. [3]

Azhagi is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Thangar Bachan in his directoral debut, based on his short story "Kalvettugal". The film stars Parthiban, Nandita Das and Devayani. It was released on 14 January 2002 and won the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Tamil. The film was remade in Telugu as Letha Manasulu in 2004.

Sneha plays a teacher named Kokila, Narain plays Vetrivel, a collector, Sriya Reddy plays a nurse and Seeman plays Muthu. The film deals with four different periods – 1978, 1983, 1991 and 2004.

Vennira Aadai Moorthy is an Indian actor and comedian in Tamil cinema. He has starred in many Tamil films and television serials as a comedian and also played supporting roles. He is a lawyer by education, and holds a B.L. degree in addition to a PhD in astrology. He is married to actress Manimala who played Suhasini's mother in Sindhu Bhairavi and the heroine in Vallavanukku Vallavan (1965). He is also a well known script-writer. Kamal Haasan's first full-fledged film as hero Maalai Sooda Vaa, had Murthy as a script writer.

Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal is a 2017 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film written and directed by Thangar Bachan. It stars Prabhu Deva and Bhumika Chawla, while Prakash Raj, Inbanila and Ganja Karuppu play supporting roles. Sathyaraj played a guest role as Periyar E. V. Ramasamy, reprising his role from Periyar (2007). After beginning production in 2009, the film produced by Ayngaran International experienced delays due to the studio's financial problems, before being released on 29 December 2017. It was praised for its story during its release.

Director Thangar Bachan who gave the most memorable films like Azhagi, Solla Marandha Kadhai, Pallikoodam and Onbadhu Roobai Nottu, is coming with a new directorial and production venture Ammavin Kaipesi.

Super Subbarayan is a stunt director and actor in the Indian cinema, mainly in Kollywood and Mollywood. He has been working in the industry since 1980. Stunt masters and actors like Rocky Rajesh, Thalapathy Dinesh, Ponnambalam, Ram Laxman, Kundrathur Babu, Indian Baskar, Rajasekhar, Dhilip Subbarayan, Thavasiraj, and Dinesh Subbarayan have worked as fighters and assistants to him. Vidayutham is a 2016 Indian Tamil film directed by Nagamaneci. The film stars Tanvi Ganesh Lonkar, Kaushik Ram and Nagamaneci in the lead roles. This film is produced by Sree Nagaraja Sarpayaakshi Films and Nagamaneci Entertainments Private Ltd. The film was theatrically released on 18 March 2016.

R. Balu is an Indian film director and screenwriter who has worked on Tamil films. He is the student of Thiruvalluvar college Papanasam He made his debut with the 1997 romantic drama film, Kaalamellam Kadhal Vaazhga starring Murali and Kausalya.

Aarthi, also known as Harathi is an Indian actress, comedian and television host who works in Tamil films and television dramas. She initially worked as a child artist in the late 1990s, she also appeared in stand-up comedy shows namely Super10 and Lollu Sabha, before joining the Tamil film industry, she has played roles in Giri (2004), Padikkadavan (2009) and Kutty (2010).

Karumegangal Kalaigindrana is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language film directed by Thangar Bachan and starring Bharathiraja, Aditi Balan, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Yogi Babu in the lead roles. The music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar with cinematography by N. K. Ekambaram and editing by B. Lenin. The film released on 1 September 2023.
