S. Thangavelu (born April 15,1954) is an Indian politician and the former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He was elected from Tamil Nadu representing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party. He had also served as a cabinet minister to Chief Minister Dr. M. Karunanidhi in 1989-1991 term. [1]
S.Thangavelu was born in 1954 to U. Sangaramoorthy and S. Kaliammal at Sankarankovil in the Tirunelveli District. He had his primary school studies at Gandhi Nagar Municipality School and secondary school studies at Gomathiambal Government Boys High School in Sankarankovil. He went to St. Xavier's College in Palayamkottai for his Pre-University College studies. He studied Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the reputed Tamil Nadu Agriculture And Research Institute in Madurai.
After graduation,he joined the State Agricultural Department as Agricultural Officer and deputed to Karamikudi of Pudukottai district.
In 1984,he resigned from his job to take part in active politics. He contested his first state assembly election in 1984 in Sankarankovil constituency of Tirunelveli District and lost the election by a narrow margin. On March 3,1986,he was elected as vice-chairman of Sankarankovil municipality and served till March 3,1991. In 1989 he contested in the Tamil Nadu state assembly election from Sankarankovil (State Assembly Constituency) and won with a huge margin. Honorable chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. M. Karunanidhi appointed him in his cabinet as Minister for the Hand Loom Department with an additional charge of Minister for Urban Development Department till 1991. During his ministerial years,the Slum Clearance Board,Town Planning Board and the Rent Control Board were under his control. He also served as a chairman of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). On October 25,1996,he was elected as Sankarankovil Municipality Chairman through a public election and served till October 24,2001. He was again elected as Sankarankovil Municipality Chairman in 2001 and served till April 14,2006. On June 10,2010,he was elected as Raiya Sabha MP (Member Of Parliament) from Tamil Nadu through his party Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He took his oath on July 26,2010,in the assembly's first session. [2]

Arcot N. Veeraswami is a former minister for electricity in the Tamil Nadu State of India. The tenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 24 June 1991. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) –Indian National Congress (INC) alliance won the elections in a landslide and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa became the chief minister. This was her first term in office. The united strength of AIADMK,the alliance with the Congress,and the wave of public sympathy in the wake of Rajiv Gandhi assassination combined to produce a massive victory for the AIADMK. The DMK could only win 2 seats. This was the worst performance of the DMK since it entered electoral politics in the 1957.
The eighth legislative assembly election for Tamil Nadu was held on 24 December 1984. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election and its general secretary,incumbent M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) was sworn in as Chief Minister,for the third time. The election victory was mainly attributed to the sympathy wave created by Indira Gandhi's assassination and M.G.R's illness coupled with Rajiv Gandhi's popularity. This is the last election M.G.R contested as he died in office in 1987. This is also the only General Election which M. Karunanidhi did not contest since 1957 until his death. As of 2023,this is the last election where the ruling party gained seats.
The fifth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held in March 1971. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam was re-elected,after its first victory under the leadership of C N Annadurai in 1967. This was the first time M. Karunanidhi,contested as the leader of DMK party won the election,since he assumed Chief Ministership for the first time,after the death of C N Annadurai. Si. Balasubramania Athithan 27 September 1905 –24 May 1981),popularly called"Adithanar",was an Indian lawyer,politician,minister and founder of the Tamil daily newspaper Dina Thanthi. He was the founder of the We Tamils party. He served as a member of the Madras Legislative Council for two terms and as a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for four terms. He was the Speaker of the Assembly during 1967–68 and Tamil Nadu's minister for Cooperation in the M. Karunanidhi cabinets of 1969 and 1971. In his memory,two Tamil literary awards were created and are awarded annually by his son,Sivanthi Adithanar.

Aladi Aruna (alias) V Arunachalam was an Indian politician. He was the Law Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from Alangulam constituency in the 1967,1971 and 1996 elections. He was elected to the Lok Sabha,the lower house of India's Parliament,from Tirunelveli constituency in the 1977 elections. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha,the upper house of India's Parliament,as a member of the Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. He came into the limelight when he issued a dissent note in the JPC report on the Bofors Scandal against a clean chit to Rajiv Gandhi government. He was murdered in 2004.

He was born in Erode district on 3 August 1948.

Tenkasi is one of the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu,India,separated from Tirunelveli district on 22 November 2019. The Government of Tamil Nadu announced its creation on 18 July 2019. The district headquarters is at Tenkasi.
