[1] The plan to build another school was eventually approved by the then Minister of Education, Dato' Sri Najib Razak on September 20th 1999. [2] After the Ministry of Education found a suitable place for the school, they approved the construction of four three-storey school buildings built on a six-acre land in Bandar Utama BU3 with the construction cost being around RM3.2 million. The board of directors from SJK(C) Puay Chai allocated 10,000 Ringgit of funds for the school and placed the then vice principle, Ms Tang Gui Lan as the first principle of SJK(C) Puay Chai 2. [1]

A few years after the school had first opened, the place started to get crowded. So, the board of directors and PTA demolished the canteen to build a three-story auditorium and administrative building on the original site, and convert the old offices, teachers' lounge and library into classrooms. In 2013, the three-story auditorium and administrative building were complete. In 2014, the school began plans to build a well-equipped gymnasium. On March 3rd 2015, the school gained the title "Sekolah Kluster Kecemerlangan". On 2018, the gymnasium was finished by Principle Peng Lizhen and Principal Soh Swee Koon.
