S K Umesh (also known as Sorekaidoddi Kariyappa Umesh) is a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police credited with arresting several notorious criminals and the many police encounters in which he was involved in solving sensational cases of yesterday years and trying to capture hardened criminals. Early life

Umesh was born in Sorekaidoddi village, Kanakapura, Ramanagara district of Karnataka state. His daughter is the famouse leading actress Sapthami Gowda who acted in blackbuster movie like Kanthara.

Police service

SK Umesh joined the Karnataka State Police Service in 1990 and is credited with 10+ encounters and resolving many cases. [2]

Ashok and his police team were in the news for the Kammanahalli encounter killing of history-sheeter Station Shekar. [3]

Umesh retired from service on 31 July 2022 [2] and faces constant threat to his life from the criminal underworld. [4]

Honours and awards

He won the President of India's Gold Medal three times and the gold medal of the Chief Minister of Karnataka once. .[ citation needed ]

Atiq Ahmed was a notorious Indian gangster and politician. He served as a member of the Indian Parliament and the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Samajwadi Party. Ahmed had more than 160 criminal cases registered against him and competed in several elections from jail. As of March 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Police had seized properties worth 11,684 crore (US$1.4 billion) belonging to Ahmed and his family. In 2019, he was convicted of kidnapping a witness who testified against him regarding the 2005 murder of his political rival Raju Pal. Ahmed remained in jail until his assassination by three gunmen on his way to a court-mandated medical checkup on 15 April 2023.

Darshan Thoogudeepa, known mononymously as Darshan, is an Indian actor, film producer, and film distributor who works predominantly in Kannada films. The Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case is a criminal case in the Gujarat state after the death of Sohrabuddin Anwarhussain Sheikh on November 26, 2005. A special CBI court acquitted all the 22 accused in the case in the alleged encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife.

Pradeep Sharma is a former officer in the police force of Mumbai, India. Sharma attained notability as an "encounter specialist" with the Mumbai Encounter Squad and was involved with the deaths of as many as 312 criminals. On 31 August 2008 he was suspended from the Mumbai police on charges of corruption but was reinstated on 16 August 2017 after he was proven innocent of those charges. Sharma resigned from Mumbai police in July 2019 after a 35 year long career. He officially joined the ruling Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on September 13, 2019 and contested from Nalasopara seat in the Maharashtra assembly polls but lost to Bahujan Vikash Aghadi's candidate Kshitij Hitendra Thakur by a margin of 43,729 votes.

Basavaraj Somappa Bommai is an Indian politician and engineer who served as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka from 18 July 2021 to 19 May 2023. He is formerly serving Interim Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Legislative Assembly as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and He was former member of the Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United). He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly in the legislature of Karnataka for Shiggaon, from where he has been elected four times since 2008. Dr. C. K. Gandhirajan is an Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer of the 1985 batch belonging to the Tamil Nadu cadre. Hailing from Thiruvallur District, he serves as the Director General of Police, Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services in Tamil Nadu. He obtained a PhD. in criminology from the University of Madras. Umesh Reddy is a serial rapist and serial killer from India. He confessed to killing 18 women, and was convicted in 9 cases. The police believe that he raped at least 20 women in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat. They also suspect that several of his crimes have not been reported, because the victims feared social stigma.

Central Prison, Bangalore is the largest prison in the Indian state of Karnataka. Established in 1997, it became the central prison of Bangalore in 2000 when the old jail, which has since been converted to Freedom Park, was shut for renovation.

He served as Superintendent of Police of Bidar, Gulbarga and Kodagu districts, DIG of Gulbarga Range, and Commissioner of Police, Hubli-Dharwad. He headed the State Intelligence Department and the State Information Department. He headed the recruitment wing in the State Police and was responsible for initiating a very transparent recruitment process which brought him much laurels. He also had his stint in CISF, New Delhi. He served for five years in the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation and was instrumental in dividing the huge entity into four independent entities. He has had a small stint of police training in the U.K. He worked as Director General of Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department and retired as DGP Home Guards, Fire Force and Civil Defence in 2011. He has written many books on Indian police system and related topics,travelogues in English and Kannada languages. He is also columnist of Deccan Herald, English daily newspaper.

Praveen Sood is an Indian policeman who serves as Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation and served as Police Commissioner of Bangalore and Mysore. He is the father-in-law of Cricketer Mayank Agarwal.
