SLINEX (Sri Lanka India Naval Exercise) are a series of naval exercises between the Indian Navy and the Sri Lanka Navy. The first SLINEX exercise took place in 2005. The 11th edition took place in 2024. [1]

SLINEX 2013

SLINEX-13 was conducted off the coast of Goa from 04 – 07 Nov 13.

INS Talwar and SLNS Sagara participated in the exercise. The exercise was conducted over two phases with the harbour phase from 04 - 05 Nov 13 and the sea phase with debrief from 06 - 07 Nov 13.

The major activities conducted as part of the exercise were replenishment at sea approaches, visit, board, search, and seizure exercise, surface firing on a floating target, flying operations and asymmetric threat operations.

SLINEX 2015

The fourth SLINEX took place between October 27 and November 15, 2015, off Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. The vessels taking part included SLNS Sayura, SLNS Samudura, SLNS Sagara, INS Kora, INS Kirpan and INS Savitri. [2] [3]

SLINEX 2018

SLINEX 2018 took place between September 7 to 13, 2018, off Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. The vessels taking part included SLNS Sayurala, SLNS Samudura, SLNS Suranimala, INS Sumitra, INS Kirch and INS Cora together with 2 Dornier air crafts and a helicopter of the Indian Navy. [4]

SLINEX 2020

The navies of India and Sri Lanka with anti-submarine warfare corvettes INS Kamorta and INS Kiltan as well as offshore patrol vessel Sayura and training ship Gajabahu respectively begin a three-day exercise Slinex 2020 to highlight growing congruence. [5] The eighth edition was scheduled off Trincomalee, Sri Lanka from October 19 to 21. [1]

SLINEX 2024

The exercise was conducted between 17 to 20 December 2024 which included the Harbour Phase (17 to 18 December) and Sea Phase (19 to 20 December). The exercise will be conducted from Visakhapatnam. Both the countries will deploy an Offshore Patrol Vessel each embarked with a Special Forces team. INS Sumitra and SLNS Sayura will take part in the exercise. The Sea Phase will include joint exercises with Special Forces operations, gun firing, communication drills, and helicopter operations among others. [6]

SLNS Samudura (P621) is a Sri Lanka Navy Offshore Patrol Vessel. Originally commissioned by the United States Coast Guard in 1968 as the medium endurance cutter USCGC Courageous, she was donated to Sri Lanka in 2004 and commissioned on 19 February 2005.

Exercise Malabar is a naval exercise involving the United States, Japan and India as permanent partners. Australia re-joined the exercise in 2020. The annual Malabar exercises includes diverse activities, ranging from fighter combat operations from aircraft carriers through maritime interdiction operations, anti-submarine warfare, diving salvage operations, amphibious operations, counter-piracy operations, cross–deck helicopter landings and anti–air warfare operations. SLNS <i>Sagara</i>

SLNS Sagara(Sagara meaning: Sea) is an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Sri Lanka Navy. It was formerly the ICGS Varaha (41), a Vikram-class offshore patrol vessel of the Indian Coast Guard, leased to Sri Lanka in 2006 and was handed over to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2015.

These vessels are capable of ocean surveillance and monitoring and can maintain control of shipping lanes. They can also be deployed to provide security to offshore oil installations, and other naval assets.

Cadex 2009 was a military training exercise involving the Indian Navy, Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Coast Guard. The three-day-long training exercise was held from 6 October to 8 October 2009. Training exercises between the two countries had been held annually, but this had been delayed because of the Sri Lankan Civil War. It was also the first training exercise between the two navies since the end of the war.

He served as the Director of Naval Rapid Action Boat Squadron, Director Naval Operations, Commander Southern Naval Area (ComSouth), Director General Personnel and Training, Commander North Central Naval Area (ComNorCen), Commander Western Naval Area (ComWest) and Commander Eastern Naval Area (ComEast). He retired from the active service in 2014 upon reaching a mandatory retirement age of 55 for Sri Lankan Armed Forces Personnel. At the time of his retirement, he was the third most senior executive officer behind Commander of the Navy and the Chief of Staff.
