Production

The film is produced under the banner of Shri Jambheshwar Paryavaran Avam Jeevraksha Pradesh Sanstha and directed by Ramratan Bishnoi and Vikram Bishnoi. Produced by Swami Ramanand Ji Maharaj, Ramratan Bishnoi and Vikram Bishnoi, [2] Creative Director is Manoj Sati, Screenplay by Ramratan Bishnoi, Vikram Bishnoi, Suraj Bishnoi, Kalyan Seervi and Editing by Sanjeev Bhute & Irfan Shaikh. [3] It features costumes by Vidya Maurya, cinematography by K. Rajkumar, and music by Milan Harish. The film was shot across Rajasthan, including locations like Junagarh Fort, Bikaner, and Nagaur City. [4]

Synopsis

The film tells the 300-year-old story of the sacrifice of 363 Bishnois who gave their lives to protect trees in Rajasthan. [8] The Bishnois, followers of Jambheshwar Maharaj, are known for their devotion to nature and wildlife conservation. [9] The story focuses on Amrita Devi, a Bishnoi woman who led her people in resisting King Abhai Singh’s attempt to cut down trees for his Flower Palace. Despite facing violence, the Bishnois stood firm, sacrificing their lives to protect their environment. The incident remains a significant example of courage and dedication to nature.

The Khejarli massacre occurred in September 1730 in Northern India, when 363 Bishnois were killed while trying to peacefully protect a grove of Khejri trees. The soldiers were sent by the Maharaja of Marwar, Abhai Singh to cut the trees in the village of Khejarli to provide wood for a new palace. The killings were carried out on the orders of his minister Giridhar Bhandari. The effort had a long term impact on environmental advocacy, and the massacre later became known as a precursor to the 20th century Chipko movement. Due to the sacrifice of the protesters, the ruler took back his earlier order of felling trees.

The Amrita Devi Bishnoi Wildlife Protection Award is a national award instituted by the government of India for wildlife conservation.
