Sagan, Ethiopia

Sagan is a town in southern Ethiopia. Located in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, this town has a latitude and longitude of 05°35′N37°46′E / 5.583°N 37.767°E / 5.583; 37.767 with an elevation of 1066 meters above sea level. It is named after the nearby Sagan River, a tributary of the Weito.

An elementary school building was constructed in Sagan with assistance from Sweden through ESBU. The school was opened in 1966 [1]

Demographics

Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Sagan has an estimated total population of 5,335 of whom 2,592 are men and 2,743 are women. [2] The 1994 national census reported this town had a total population of 2,944 of whom 1,435 were males and 1,509 were females. It is one of three towns in Konso special woreda.

Part of the Hadiya Zone, Soro consists large population of Hadiya and Danta dubamo people, bordered on the south by the Kembata Tembaro Zone, on the southwest by the Dawro Zone, on the west by the Omo River which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the north by Gomibora, on the northeast by Limo, and on the southeast by Duna. The administrative center of this woreda is Gimbichu; other towns in Soro include Jajura. Parts of Soro were separated to create Duna and Gomibora woredas.

Konta, previously called Ela, is a zone in the Southwest Region of Ethiopia. It is named after Konta people who speak the dialects called Kontatsuwa, Omotic languages. Before joining to Southwest Ethiopia Regional states, Konta was special woreda. This zone is bordered on the south by the Omo River which separates it from the Gamo Zone, Gofa Zone, and Selamgo woreda, Debub Omo Zone, on the west by the Keffa Zone, on the north by Oromia Region,Dedo and Mancho woreda, and on the east by the Dawro Zone; the Denchya River defines the southern part of the boundary with the Keficho Shekicho Zone. The administrative center is Ameya; other towns include Chida.

Arba Minch Zuria is a woreda in Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region, Ethiopia. A part of the Gamo Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Arba Minch Zuria is bordered on the south by the Dirashe special woreda, on the west by Bonke, on the north by Dita and Chencha, on the northeast by Mirab Abaya, on the east by the Oromia Region, and on the southeast by the Amaro special woreda. This woreda also includes portions of two lakes and their islands, Abaya found in Lante kebele and Chamo found in all Ganta Kanchama Ochole and Zeyise kebeles. Nechisar National Park is located between these lakes. City of Arba Minch is surrounded by Arba Minch Zuria.

Guduru is a woreda in Oromia Region, Ethiopia. This woreda is named after one of the sections of the Macha Oromo, also known as the Torban Guduru, which coalesced into a kingdom around 1855 under Gama Moras, which lay between the Abay River and the Gibe region. It was also the location of the Battle of Embabo, fought 6 June 1882; the Shewan forces of Menelik defeated the Gojjame army, capturing Negus Tekle Haymanot and establishing a Shewan hegemony over the territories south of the Abay.

Part of the Arsi Zone, Sirkaa is bordered on the south by the Shebelle River which separates it from the Bale Zone, on the southwest by Bekoji, on the west by Digeluna Tijo, on the north by Tena, and on the east by Robe. Gobesa is the administrative center; other towns include Gaadoo Gunaa.

Nensebo is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Part of the West Arsi Zone, Nensebo is bordered on the south by the Borena Zone, on the west by the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region, on the northwest by Kokosa, on the north by Dodola, on the northeast by Adaba, on the east by Bale Zone. Uraga is one of the Aanaas in the Oromia of Ethiopia. Located in the southwest corner of the Borena Zone, Teltele is bordered on the southwest by Kenya, on the west and north by the Sagan River, the only river in this woreda, which separates it from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region, on the northeast by Yabelo, and on the southeast by Dire.

Guder is a town located in the West Shewa Zone of the Oromia of Ethiopia. Located 12km west of Ambo, this town has a latitude and longitude of 8°58′N37°46′E, with an elevation of 2101 meters above sea level. Guder is famous for its Guder River Falls and year-round fruit production, using plentiful water resources in the vicinity.
