Sagor Islam (born 5 June 2006) is a Bangladeshi archer. He qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics and was named his country's flag bearer.
Islam was born on 5 June 2006, and grew up in the village of Choto Bangram, Rajshahi, Bangladesh. [1] [2] [3] The youngest of four children, he was raised by his mother after his father died when he was age three. [2] His mother ran a tea shop and worked from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day to support the family. [3] Islam developed an interest in archery after seeing competitors practice at a club located across the street from the tea shop. [1]
Islam was signed up for the SB Club in 2017 and showed talent in the sport; his coach noted "Sagor had something special in him, I sensed it as soon as he started practising. He always gave attention to detail and did exactly what I asked him to do." [3] His talent led to him earning a spot at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, the national sports institute, in 2019. [3] He made his international debut at the 2022 Archery World Cup, placing 17th in the individual and team events, while finishing 9th in the mixed team competition. [1] He competed at the 2023 Archery World Cup and helped his team reach the quarterfinals; he also competed at the 2023 World Archery Championships and placed 113th in the individual recurve event, and later participated at the 2024 Archery World Cup. [1] [4] In June 2024, he won silver at the Final Individual Olympic Qualification Tournament, securing him a place at the 2024 Summer Olympics. [5] [6] He was named the Bangladeshi flag bearer for the opening Olympic ceremony. [7]
World Archery is the governing body of the sport of archery. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is composed of 156 national federations and other archery associations, and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee.
Bhutan sent a delegation to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, People's Republic of China from 8–24 August 2008. This was Bhutan's seventh time participating in a Summer Olympic Games. The delegation consisted of two archers, Tashi Peljor and Dorji Dema. Neither was able to win their first round match.
Deepika Kumari is an Indian professional archer. She won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the women's individual recurve event. She also won a gold there in the women's team recurve event with Dola Banerjee and Bombayala Devi. She won individual gold in two of the three stages of the World Cup—one in Guatemala and another in Paris. In the process she also reclaimed the number one ranking after nine years at the Paris World Cup. Deepika won individual gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 1. She defeated Mexico by 5–1 in the final to win the gold in Paris.
Ryan Tyack is an Australian archer competing in men's recurve events at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He earned a gold medal at the 2006 Junior World Outdoor Target Championships in the male recurve cadet event. He also won a gold at the 2008 World Youth Archery Championships in the men's under-18 event. He was named to the Australian archery shadow Olympic squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics, and won the individual competition at the 2014 World Indoor Archery Championships.

This marked the nation's eighth appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1984 Summer Olympics, and the first in which the nation competed in a sport other than archery. Atanu Das is an Indian archer. He represents India in the recurve men's individual and team events. His current world ranking is 9 as of 22 July 2021. He is the spouse of former World No. 1 Indian archer Deepika Kumari. The Indian Men's recurve team consisting of Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Tushar Shelke won the silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games. They lost the final to Republic of Korea.

The delegation included two female athletes, Karma in the women's individual archery tournament and Kunzang Lenchu in the women's 10 metre air rifle shooting contest. Both qualified for the Games through wildcard places because they did not match the required qualification standards. Karma was selected as the flag bearer for the opening ceremony while Lenchu held it at the closing ceremony. Karma was eliminated at the Round of 64 while Lenchu exited the competition after the shooting qualification round.

He won the bronze medal in recurve single's event of 2019 World Archery Championships and became the first Bangladeshi archer in history to win a medal in the competition. He lives in Khulna. Shana won gold in the men's singles recurve category at the 2019 Asia Cup in the Philippines.
Rishabh Yadav is a compound archer from India. At the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships at Wrocław, Poland, he won the bronze medal in the men's compound archery event. On 17 November 2021, he won the bronze medal in the men's compound archery team event along with Abhishek Verma and Aman Saini and a silver medal in the mixed team event with Jyothi Surekha Vennam at the 22nd Asian Archery Championship in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
