Saint Theodore the Studite Monastery is a monastery of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the village of Kolodiivka, Ternopil Oblast.
In the middle of Kolodiiivka, on a hill, stood the ancestral church (probably from the 16th century). In 1904, the community built a new stone church on the site of the old wooden one. The church was built on the relics of St. Demetrius, so the church holiday falls on St. Demetrius' day. [1]
On 28 June 1941, at. Yosyf Hrytsai, mutilated beyond recognition, was crucified on the door of the Ternopil prison. [1]
During the Soviet era, until 25 August 1990, the parish was served by priests of the Moscow Patriarchate, and services in the church did not stop. [1]
On 25 August 1990, the Kolodiivka community returned to the bosom of the Greek Catholic Church without a priest. On the initiative of at. Illia Dovhoshyia, the old building was never restored. In 1995, Bishop Mykhailo Sabryha consecrated the building and transferred it to the ownership of the Monastery of Saint Theodore Studite. The abbot of the monastery at that time was His Beatitude Liubomyr Huzar. In September 1997, on the initiative of at. Illia, missions were conducted with the participation of the fathers and brothers of the monastery. The monastery is of diocesan law. [1]
The young monastic study community was founded in August 1995 with the blessing of Bishop Sofron Dmyterko, Ordinary of the Ivano-Frankivsk Eparchy. [1]
In July 1996, with the blessing of Liubomyr Huzar (then Exarch of Kyiv-Vyshhorod), the monastic community of brothers settled in the monastery of Saint Theodore in the village of Kolodiyivka in the old school building. The monastery is currently under construction. [1]
The Monastery of Saint Theodore Studite is a contemplative monastery whose purpose is constant prayer and contemplation. Currently, it has 22 members, including 3 hieromonks, 9 hieromonks, 2 schismatics, 4 cloistered monks, 2 cassock monks, and 2 novices. [1]
Catechesis is held in the parish every Sunday, and the Holy Trinity prayer group, which mainly consists of students, operates. [1]
A monk is a person who practices religious asceticism by living a monastic lifestyle, either alone or with any number of other monks. A monk may be a person who decides to dedicate his life to serving other people and serving God, or to be an ascetic who voluntarily chooses to leave mainstream society and live his life in prayer and contemplation. Liubomyr Huzar MSU was the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the first elected in independent Ukraine. He was also a cardinal of the Catholic Church. After the transfer of the see of Lviv to Kyiv in 2005, he was the Ukrainian Catholic Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Galicia. In February 2011 he became Major Archeparch Emeritus after he resigned due to ill health.
Basilian monks are Greek Catholic monks who follow the rule of Basil the Great, bishop of Caesarea (330–379). The term 'Basilian' is typically used only in the Catholic Church to distinguish Greek Catholic monks from other forms of monastic life in the Catholic Church.
