Salomon Snowboards is a category of Salomon Group. Marketing for Salomon Snowboards is based in Portland, Oregon, near Mount Hood, while design and development takes place at the base of the French Alps, in Annecy, France. Salomon released their first snowboard in 1997 after several years of development. The first board featured a simple single-color topsheet graphic and advanced technologies adopted from the resources of the ski experts. The company built a strong team of pro riders including Daniel Frank and Michelle Taggert.
In 2007, Salomon Snowboards hosted their first annual Backyard Bang rail jam in Portland, Oregon. The contest aimed to bring backyard snowboarding into the city. Salomon’s Backyard Bang has since expanded globally to include contests in Denver, Tahoe, and Germany. [2]
In 2008, the Salomon SickStick snowboard won the Volvo SportsDesign Award for Eco Design in the boardsports category. [3] The SickStick featured Salomon’s newly patented bamboo sandwich construction process, and was driven by the goal to improve the performance of Salomon products while significantly reducing the ecological cost of snowboard production. In 2010, Salomon Snowboards won TransWorld Snowboarding’s Team Shoot Out, in which four of the best teams in snowboarding compete simultaneously at four separate resorts across the West for the grand prize – the cover of the September issue of TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine. [5]

Orienteering is a group of sports that require navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain whilst moving at speed. Participants are given a topographical map, usually a specially prepared orienteering map, which they use to find control points. Originally a training exercise in land navigation for military officers, orienteering has developed many variations. Among these, the oldest and the most popular is foot orienteering. For the purposes of this article, foot orienteering serves as a point of departure for discussion of all other variations, but almost any sport that involves racing against a clock and requires navigation with a map is a type of orienteering.

Rice's biggest claim to fame was when he arrived at Snowboarder magazine's Superpark contest at Mammoth Mountain and launched a 'mammoth' of a backside rodeo across a 117-foot gap jump. Waterville Valley is a ski resort in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, United States. It is located within the White Mountain National Forest. Built on Mount Tecumseh, with a summit elevation of 3,997 feet (1,218 m) above sea level, the ski trails extend to a high point on the south ridge of the mountain at 3,840 feet (1,170 m), offering a vertical drop of 2,020 feet (615 m). The ski area has 11 lifts, including two high-speed quads and the slopes primarily face east and northeast.

Grouse Mountain is one of the North Shore Mountains of the Pacific Ranges in the District Municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. With a maximum elevation of over 1,200m (4,100ft) at its peak, the mountain is the site of an alpine ski area, Grouse Mountain Resort, which overlooks Metro Vancouver and has four chairlifts servicing 33 runs. In the summer, Grouse Mountain Resort features lumberjack shows, the "Birds in Motion" birds of prey demonstration, a scenic chairlift ride, disc golf, mountain biking, zip lining, tandem paragliding, helicopter tours, and guided ecowalks. Year-round operations include a 100-seat mountaintop theatre and a wildlife refuge. The mountain operates two aerial tramways, known officially as the Skyride. The Blue Skyride is used mainly for freight transportation, while public access to the mountain top is provided by the Swiss-built Garaventa Red Skyride, which has a maximum capacity of 101 passengers. Summer access is also provided by the 2.9 kilometre Grouse Grind hiking trail, which is open for hiking from May to October.

Brad Steward is a former professional snowboarder and one of the first entrepreneurs in the industry. Brad made his mark in the industry for bringing snowboarding to the global stage. In the late 1980s Steward, alongside Craig Kelly, Tom Hsieh, Wiley Asher and Bud Fawcett became the first Americans to snowboard in Russia, in a seminal Soviet-Era visit to Gudari, located in what was then Soviet Georgia. Memorialized in both Warren Miller films and Craig Kelly's video ‘Board With The World’, this trip was seen as the starting point for a generation of wandering riders, searching the world for dangerous and desirable mountains. Steward and crew were forced to leave Gudari and the Tbilisi area in a Russian troop transport helicopters as a result of protests and conflict from the Tbilisi Massacre, where 21 deaths and hundreds of injuries took place. Craig Kelly, who at that time was the 4-time World Champion of snowboarding, later passed away in an avalanche.
