Salutem Healthcare is a social care provider based in Windsor founded in 2016. It employs more than 3,000 staff. John Godden, the chief executive, was awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Year Honours. [1]

Salutem provides residential healthcare and education services for more than 1,350 adults and children with learning disabilities and associated needs, including those with challenging behaviours. [2] In April 2017 it took over Pathways Care Group and Modus Care, two providers of specialist care services for children and adults with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, autism and challenging behaviours. At that point it had 55 homes with about 400 residents. [3] The purchase of Clearwater Care in November 2017 added an additional 20 services. In October 2019 it was running 130 services across England and Wales. [4]

In April 2018 Salutem purchased 51 services from Scope, including three special schools, [5] 38 care homes and 10 day services. [6] The transfer included 1,598 staff, two thirds of the charity's payroll, [7] were transferred from Scope to Ambito Care & Education, a division of Salutem. [8] Scope made £3 million on the deal. [9]

It runs an annual a black-tie event, the Kudos Ball, at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-le-Spring for 300 service users from across the country. [10]

Services

Craig y Parc is a school in Cardiff established in 1955, for complex, neurological and multi disabilities, formerly run by Scope. Tŷ Cwtch Residential Children home is nearby. In April 2020 a display by the local police force was organised for the 14th birthday of one of the pupils. [11] The school uses Dragon Dictate to help pupils. [12]

Documentary director Mei Williams was given a BAFTA award in 2019 for his film about a resident of Lewis Martin Court where the company provides round the clock care for young adults with complex needs. [13]

Bull Point is a residential care home in Plymouth for 5 people with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. In 2019 it organised a dog show to celebrate the 8th birthday of a dog belonging to one of the residents. [14]

Scope is a disability charity in England and Wales that campaigns to change negative attitudes about disability, provides direct services, and educates the public. The organisation was founded in 1952 by a group of parents and social workers who wanted to ensure that their disabled children had the right to a decent education. Originally focused on cerebral palsy, Scope now embraces all conditions and impairment. Scope subscribes to the social model of disability rather than the medical model of disability – that a person is disabled by the barriers placed in front of them by society, not because of their condition or impairment.

An assisted living residence or assisted living facility (ALF) is a housing facility for people with disabilities or for adults who cannot or who choose not to live independently. The term is popular in the United States, but the setting is similar to a retirement home, in the sense that facilities provide a group living environment and typically cater to an older adult population. There is also Caribbean assisted living, which offers a similar service in a resort-like environment.

St John of God Health Care is a Catholic provider of health care services in Australia, with 24 hospitals and facilities comprising more than 3,400 beds. The group operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, and New Zealand.

The California Medical Assistance Program is California's Medicaid program serving low-income individuals, including families, seniors, persons with disabilities, children in foster care, pregnant women, and childless adults with incomes below 138% of federal poverty level. Benefits include ambulatory patient services, emergency services, hospitalization, maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance use disorder treatment, dental (Denti-Cal), vision, and long-term care and supports. Approximately 13.3 million people were enrolled in Medi-Cal as of January 2018, or about one-third of California's population; in Tulare County and Merced County, more than 50% of county residents were enrolled as of September 2015.

A group home, congregate living facility, or care home is a residence model of medical care for those with complex health needs. Traditionally, the model has been used for children or young people who cannot live with their families or afford their own homes, people with chronic disabilities who may be adults or seniors, or people with dementia and related aged illnesses. Typically, there are no more than six residents, and there is at least one trained caregiver there 24 hours a day. In some early "model programs", a house manager, night manager, weekend activity coordinator, and four part-time skill teachers were reported. Originally, the term group home referred to homes of 8 to 16 individuals, which was a state-mandated size during deinstitutionalization. Residential nursing facilities, also included in this article, may be as large in 2015 as 100 individuals, which is no longer the case in fields such as intellectual and developmental disabilities. Depending on the severity of the condition requiring one to need to live in a group home, some clients are able to attend day programs and most clients are able to live normal lifestyles.

Respite care is planned or emergency temporary care provided to caregivers of a child or adult.

Home automation for the elderly and disabled focuses on making it possible for older adults and people with disabilities to remain at home, safe and comfortable. Home automation is becoming a viable option for older adults and people with disabilities who would prefer to stay in the comfort of their homes rather than move to a healthcare facility. This field uses much of the same technology and equipment as home automation for security, entertainment, and energy conservation but tailors it towards old people and people with disabilities.

The Disabilities Trust is a UK charity founded over 30 years ago in Burgess Hill, West Sussex, as The Disabled Housing Trust. The Disabilities Trust provides residential, day services, care, rehabilitation and support to meet the needs of people with physical disabilities, acquired brain injury (ABI), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and learning disabilities as well as children and adults with autism. The Disabilities Trust also provides care and support to enable living in the community and support at home.

Cygnet Health Care is an independent provider of mental health services which operates over 150 centres with more than 2,500 beds across the UK. It is a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, which acquired it for £205 million in 2014. It has 15 rehabilitation sites nationwide, comprising 25 wards and 338 beds. Some of the company's clients pay privately, but most are funded by the NHS buying extra capacity. In 2013/4 Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust spent £1.2 million with the company.

Discrimination against autistic people is the discrimination and persecution that autistic people have been subjected to. Discrimination against autistic people is a form of ableism.

Elysium Healthcare is a private provider of mental health services based in Borehamwood, UK. It was launched in December 2016 and combined sites from the portfolio of Partnerships in Care and The Priory Group when they were sold by Acadia Healthcare. It was owned by BC Partners. In October 2020 Elysium hired JP Morgan to advise on the sale of the business. The price tag was estimated to be circa £900 million. In December 2021 Ramsay Health Care UK bought the company for £775 million.

Orbis Education and Care is a provider of schools, residential homes and facilities for children and adults with a diagnosis of autism based in Cardiff. It runs 16 schools, residential homes and facilities for children and adults in Wales and employs about 650 people.

Hft, formerly known as the Home Farm Trust, is a British learning disability charity based in Bristol. It was established in 1962. The parents who established the charity bought Frocester Manor in Gloucestershire as a residential home for their children. The organisation runs small, person-centred residential care homes and supported living services.

The National Care Group is a social care provider based in Accrington. It was established in March 2016 by Jamil Mawji and Faisal Lalani. They previously helped set up 99p Stores. It provides support services for people with complex needs arising from learning disability, mental health and acquired brain injury.
