Sam Dorman (born August 30, 1991) [1] is a retired American diver. He represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics where he, along with his diving partner Michael Hixon, won a silver medal in the 3-meter springboard synchro event. Dorman attended the University of Miami.

Early life

Sam Dorman was born to Marla and Paul Dorman and grew up in Tempe, Arizona. He has a brother living in Australia who plays for Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League in Australia. He attended Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, and then went to University of Miami where he majored in mechanical engineering. [2]

Dorman began learning to dive when he was eight, and started to compete in diving competition when he was nine. [3]

Diving career

Dorman won three gold medals, on the 1- and 3-meter springboard events and the 3-meter synchro with Zac Nees, at the AT&T National Diving Championships in Iowa City in 2013. [4] In 2015, he won the 3-meter individual springboard at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a diving record of 529.10 points. [5]

Dorman partnered for a time with Kristian Ipsen in 2015 and early 2016, but teamed up with Michael Hixon after team changes in March 2016. [6] Dorman and Hixon won the U.S. trials in their first competition together. [3]

At the Rio Olympics, in their first international meet as diving partners, Dorman and Hixon won the silver medal in the 3m synchro with a score of 450.21, behind Jack Laugher and Chris Mears of Great Britain (454.32) but ahead of the Chinese pair Qin Kai and Cao Yuan (443.70). [7]

Reuben Ross is a Canadian diver. He won a gold medal in the men's 3m or 3m synchronized events at the Canadian Nationals from 2008-2011. Ross competed in the individual 3m springboard and 10m platform events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the 3m springboard synchronized event with Alexandre Despatie.

Kristian Ipsen is an American diver, who has been diving competitively since 1998. Diving alongside Troy Dumais, they took the silver medal in the synchronized 3 meter springboard at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships and the bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Michael Hixon is an American diver. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won the silver medal with Sam Dorman in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the silver medal with Andrew Capobianco at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the same event.

Jennifer Abel Canadian diver

Jennifer Abel is a Canadian former diver. She is currently partnered with Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu for synchronized diving. She won an Olympic bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 3 m synchro diving event with Émilie Heymans and a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the same event with Melissa Citrini-Beaulieu. Abel is a four-time Commonwealth Games champion in the 1 m and 3 m synchronized springboard; and is also a three-time Pan American Games champion in the 3 m springboard and 3 m synchronized springboard. Her ten medals at the FINA World Championships are a record for most medals by a Canadian in diving at the world championships.

Jack Laugher British diver

Jack David Laugher is a British diver competing for Great Britain and England. A specialist on springboard, he competes in individual springboard events, and in synchronised events with Chris Mears and later Daniel Goodfellow. Laugher and Mears became Britain's first diving Olympic champions by winning a gold medal in the men's synchronised 3m springboard event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, an achievement many had expected double world 10m champion Tom Daley would achieve first. A week later, Laugher won a silver in the men's individual 3m springboard at the same Games, becoming the first British diver to win multiple Olympic diving medals at the same Games.

Anabelle Smith Australian diver

Anabelle "Belle" Smith is an Australian diver. She is 2022 Commonwealth Games champion in the 3 metre synchronized springboard. She competed in the 3 m springboard synchronized event at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She won a bronze medal in 2016, and was placed fifth in 2012.

Cao Yuan is a Chinese diver and an Olympic gold medalist, having won three golds, one silver and one bronze in the Olympics. He has also won golds in diving at the World Championships and World Cups.

Chris Mears (diver) British diver

Christopher James Mears is a British diver and DJ/Producer from Burghfield Common, near Reading, Berkshire. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the synchronised 3m springboard event with Jack Laugher and won gold, the first Olympic gold medal for Britain in diving.

Daniel Goodfellow British diver

Daniel Goodfellow is a British diver, two-time Commonwealth champion and Olympic bronze medalist. He first represented Great Britain as a senior at the 2013 European Diving Championships in the 10 m platform event and the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in the same event. Goodfellow won a bronze medal in the Men's 10m Synchronised Platform event with his diving partner Tom Daley at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He has also won a gold with Daley in the same event at the Commonwealth Games, and a silver at the European Championships. In 2022 he won his first major title as a solo diver, winning gold in the men's 3 metre springboard at the 2022 Commonwealth Games

Matty Lee British diver (born 1998)

Matthew Lee is a British diver and Olympic gold medallist. Adept in both individual and synchronised diving, and across both 3-metre springboard and platform, Lee won the gold medal in 10-metre platform at the 2015 European Games, the mixed 10-metre synchronised platform at the 2017 European Diving Championships and has twice been European junior champion on the 3-metre springboard. At world level, Lee won the silver medal in the mixed 10-metre synchronised platform event at the 2017 World Championships, and at the 2019 World Championships, Lee and Tom Daley won bronze in the 10 m synchro event, as well as gold in July 2021 at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Maddison Keeney is an Australian diver. She won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, gold medals at the 2017 and 2019 World Aquatics Championships and 2022 Commonwealth Games, and silver medals at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Steele Johnson American diver

Steele Alexander Johnson is an Olympic silver medal-winning American diver. He has won multiple national titles at both the junior and college levels. Johnson made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Games, where he won a silver medal with David Boudia in the men's 10 m synchronized platform diving competition. Johnson is a six-time senior national champion with USA Diving. He won the 10-meter platform at the 2013 USA Diving Winter Nationals, was a 15-time junior national champion, and was a four-time champion at the Junior Pan American Games.

Noah Williams (diver) English diver

Noah Oliver Williams is an English diver who represents Great Britain and specialises in the 10 metre platform event. He has won silver medals in the 10 metre synchro platform with Matthew Dixon at the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
