Sam Mangel (born February 25, 1963) is an American businessman who consults for incarcerated individuals. [1] He served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud. [2] [3] Upon release, Mangel began advising defendants, such as Steve Bannon, Sam Bankman-Fried, and Peter Navarro, on navigating the U.S. prison system. Mangel was indicted in 2011 for wire fraud and illegal insurance business practices in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Through his company Rumson Capital Inc., located in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Mangel operated a life insurance policy brokerage that facilitated the sale of existing life insurance policies to life settlement providers. His charges related to falsifying and forging life insurance policy disclosure documents in Pennsylvania. [9] [10] He faced a statutory maximum of 85 years in prison but only served 20 months. [11]
After his 2020 release from prison, Mangel established a prison consulting practice using his familiarity with prison to secure his clients their desired prison jobs, get into programs that will reduce their sentences, and other tasks. [12] [13] His clients have included Steve Bannon, Sam Bankman-Fried, Peter Navarro, British businessman David Price, [14] and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao. [15] [16] Due to his proximity to high-profile conservatives who have been involved in the justice system like Bannon and Navarro, Mangel has been engaged for services related to clemency requests. Mangel was born on February 25, 1963 and raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1985. He was married in 1989 and has one son and one daughter. [23] Mangel participates in competitive cycling, including in the 2009 Maccabiah Games. [24] Mangel is a hobby pickleball player. [25]
