Sam Medysky (born June 5, 1990) is a professional kiteboarder from Ontario, Canada. [1]
Medysky started kiting when he was 9 years old. In 2004, he won the junior division at the 2004 Velocity Games. Since then he has become a 6-time Canadian National Champion and, since May 2009, a Best Kiteboarding International Team Rider. [2]
After spending the 2009 winter training in Brazil, he made an impact in professional kiteboarding after winning a wild card entry to the 2009 Real Triple-S Invitational, a competition featuring the top professional kiteboarders held each year in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. [3]
For 2010 Medysky was invited back to the Triple-S Invitationa. [4] To date he is one of only two Canadian riders to have been invited to this competition.
Medysky currently resides in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. He is sponsored by Airrush Kiteboarding, Dakine, LiP Sunglasses and KiteRider Canada.
Kiteboarding or kitesurfing is a sport that involves using wind power with a large power kite to pull a rider across a water, land, or snow surface. It combines the aspects of paragliding, surfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, and wakeboarding. Kiteboarding is among the less expensive and more convenient sailing sports.

Snowkiting or kite skiing is an outdoor winter sport where people use kite power to glide on snow or ice. The skier uses a kite to give them power over large jumps. The sport is similar to water-based kiteboarding, but with the footwear used in snowboarding or skiing. The principles of using the kite are the same, but in different terrain. In the early days of snowkiting, foil kites were the most common type; nowadays many kiteboarders use inflatable kites. However, since 2013, newly developed racing foil kites seem to dominate speed races and expedition races, like Red Bull Ragnarok and the Vake mini-expedition race. Snowkiting differs from other alpine sports in that it is possible for the snowkiter to travel uphill and downhill with any wind direction. Like kiteboarding, snowkiting can be very hazardous and should be learned and practiced with care. Snowkiting has become more popular in places often associated with skiing and snowboarding, such as Russia, Canada, Iceland, France, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Northern and Central United States. The sport has become more diverse as adventurers use kites to travel great distances and sports enthusiasts push the boundaries of freestyle, big air, speed and back country exploration.
A wild card is a tournament or playoff berth awarded to an individual or team that fails to qualify in the normal way; for example, by having a high ranking or winning a qualifying stage. In some events, wildcards are chosen freely by the organizers. Other events have fixed rules. Some North American professional sports leagues compare the records of teams which did not qualify directly by winning a division or conference.

Robert "Rob" Douglas is an American professional sailor known for using a kiteboard in speed sailing records attempts. Ben Wilson is an Australian kitesurfer notable for holding the record for kitesurfing the largest wave ever captured on film; In 2011, Ben successfully kited Fiji’s most infamous wave, Cloudbreak at 35-foot. There have been many attempts by the next generation of kitesurfers including Nicolo Porcella and Jesse Richman to best this feat but as yet there has been no successful attempt.

Bruna Kajiya is a Brazilian professional kiteboarder. She is a six-time Vice World Champion and a three-time World Champion Freestyle in the World Kiteboarding League (WKL). In 2018, the WKL was replaced by the Global Kitesports Association (GKA) which became the official Kite Surfing World Title organization. In 2019, Bruna was the GKA Vice World Freestyle Champion, giving her her sixth Vice World Championship Title. In 2016, Bruna was the first woman to land a "Backside 315", a trick that combines a 540 degree rotation and double handle-pass.
Horse surfing is an extreme sport invented in 2005. It requires two people, a horse, and a board. Horse surfing involves one person riding either a kite-board, surfboard, wake-board, or skim-board, while being towed behind a horse, ridden by a second person, through shallow water, at speeds up to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h). After originating in England the first official horse surfing competition was held in 2006 in La Baule, France, and over the last 14 years the sport has continued to spread internationally. Today there are several international competitions with globally established rules and categories.
