Samuel Harold Patrick Spurway (born 13 March 1987) is an English cricketer. He is a left-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played for Somerset before he was released in 2007. He was born in Taunton.
Spurway started his career with Twenty20 cricket in 2005, following two years in the Second XI, before playing his debut first-class game in August 2006. In his first game, Spurway scored 46 runs before being caught out, in an innings victory for Somerset. He continued to play well for the team in a lower-order position, despite Somerset finishing 2006 dead last in Division Two of the County Championship.
Spurway remained in the team for the start of the 2007 season, as the team were enjoying a current upturn in their fortunes. The lower-order batsman, who was the preferred wicket-keeper over team-mate Carl Gazzard, continued to pull in impressive performances in the lower-order, none more so than when he was halted in the middle of a run towards his first half-century on 44* in a record-setting Somerset innings of 850-7 declared in April 2007. However, Craig Kieswetter became Somerset's first-choice wicketkeeper after some impressive performances in the one-day side. The club now maintains a policy to have only two wicketkeepers in their squad, which meant that Kieswetter and Gazzard were retained, at the expense of Spurway. Spurway now plays his cricket for boyhood club, Ilminster CC.
The wicket-keeper in the sport of cricket is the player on the fielding side who stands behind the wicket or stumps being watchful of the batsman and ready to take a catch, stump the batsman out and run out a batsman when occasion arises. The wicket-keeper is the only member of the fielding side permitted to wear gloves and external leg guards. The role of the keeper is governed by Law 27 of the Laws of Cricket.

Engineer was the last from his community to play for India, as not a single Parsee male has represented the country after him.
Steven Michael Davies is a retired English first-class cricketer, a left-handed batsman who last played for Somerset. He batted in the middle order in first-class cricket and openeds in limited-overs. He started as a wicket-keeper, playing ODI and Twenty20 cricket in this role for England and has stated a desire to return to this position.
Matthew James Prior is a South African-born English former cricketer, who played for England in Test cricket and for Sussex County Cricket Club in domestic cricket. He was a wicket-keeper and his aggressive right-handed batting enabled him to open the innings in ODI matches, even though he made very limited appearances in shorter forms of the game. With an international Test debut score of 126, Prior became the first English wicket-keeper to hit a century in his debut match in early 2007. His glovework, however, was criticised. Despite a successful tour of Sri Lanka with the bat, Prior's keeping was less successful, and he was dropped from the team for the 2008 tour of New Zealand. He returned for the 2008 series against South Africa, and was retained into 2009, where he became the second-fastest England keeper to reach 1,000 Test runs, behind Les Ames. He retired in June 2015 from all forms of professional cricket due to a recurring Achilles tendon injury.

The England cricket team toured Bangladesh at the end of the 2009–10 cricket season, playing three One Day Internationals (ODI) and two Test matches. Bangladesh were captained by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Somerset County Cricket Club competed in four domestic competitions during the 2009 English cricket season: the first division of the County Championship, the Friends Provident Trophy, the first division of the NatWest Pro40 League and the Twenty20 Cup. Through their performance in the Twenty20 Cup, the team qualified for the Champions League Twenty20. They enjoyed a successful season, but fell short of winning any competitions, prompting Director of Cricket Brian Rose to say "We've had enough of being cricket's nearly men."
Edward Popham Spurway was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who made two first-class appearances for Somerset County Cricket Club in the late 19th century, and served as the Rector of Heathfield from 1896 until 1914.
