Sambuca Classica (foaled February 21, 2004, in New York) is a Thoroughbred mare best known as the dam of 2016 Champion Two-Year-Old Colt Classic Empire. [2] She was an unsuccessful race mare, not winning in eight career starts and even starting once in a Maiden Claiming, but has proven to be more successful as a broodmare, with all five of her foals to race to date being winners. Background

Sambuca Classica is a small chestnut mare with a star, strip, a sock on her right front and left rear leg, and a coronet mark on her right rear. [4] She was raced by her breeders, Anstu Farm, for her three career starts in 2006, with her best finish being fourth-place. She was purchased by Steven and Brandi Nicholson, but did not race again until August of her three-year-old season. She failed to finish higher than third-place in her five subsequent starts. She was retired in 2008 to become a broodmare.

Time Supply was an American Thoroughbred racehorse sired by Time Maker out of the Fair Play mare Surplice. He was bred in Virginia at the Court Manor Stud of Willis Sharpe Kilmer in conjunction with Edward B. McLean. Kilmer had successfully run Sun Briar, Exterminator and Sun Beau which allowed him to expand his New York operations to Virginia. McLean was the publisher of The Washington Post and other newspapers through inheritance and had purchased the Hope Diamond in 1911. Still in June 1931, he dispersed his horse racing stock and Surplice with foal were bought by Mrs. Frank A. Carreaud. It proved to be a wise purchase.

Certain is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. His sire was Out of Place and his grandsire was Cox's Ridge. Conditioned for racing by two trainers, Leo Azpurua Jr and Terry J. Brennan, Certain had three wins and two second places in five starts at age two. His best winning performance was in the grade three What a Pleasure Stakes. His three-year-old debut was an allowance win over The Groom is Red and Cryptodiplomacy, both owned by basketball coach Rick Pitino. Certain's next race was the Fountain of Youth Stakes where he finished third by one length behind winner Vicar and second Cat Thief. His next race was in the Florida Derby where he finished fourth.

Groupie Doll is an American Thoroughbred racehorse. A specialist sprinter, she is best known for winning the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint in 2012 and 2013. Unraced as a two-year-old she showed good form as a three-year-old in 2011, winning three races including the Gardenia Stakes. In 2012, she emerged as a world-class sprinter, winning the Madison Stakes, Humana Distaff Handicap, Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes, and Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes before taking the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint. In 2013 she repeated in the Masters Stakes and won a second Breeders' Cup. She was then sold as a prospective broodmare for $3.1 million. Her new owner chose to keep her in training into early 2014, running her against males in the Cigar Mile, and then in the Hurricane Bertie Stakes, where she won the final race of her career, to be retired and become a broodmare.

Bobby's Kitten is an American Thoroughbred racehorse who won the 2014 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. A dark bay or brown colt sired by Kitten's Joy, and homebred by his owners Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, he is trained by Chad Brown. In 2013 he won his second race as a two-year-old before going on to win his first graded stakes race, the Grade III Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont Park. Both races were at 1+116 miles. He contested the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf that year and finished third. Shake The Yoke was a British-bred Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. Originally trained in France, she showed good form as a two-year-old, winning the Prix d'Aumale and finishing second in the Prix Marcel Boussac. In the following year she won the Prix de la Grotte by ten lengths and recorded her biggest success when taking the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. In the same year she finished second in both the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes and third in the Prix du Moulin. She was then exported to the United States where she took time to adapt to her new conditions, but won the Wilshire Handicap as a five-year-old in 1998.
