Big Brother is a reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999 and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show features contestants called "housemates" or "HouseGuests" who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The name is inspired by Big Brother from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, and the housemates are continuously monitored during their stay in the house by live television cameras as well as personal audio microphones. Throughout the course of the competition, they are voted out until only one remains and wins the cash prize.

The program debuted on Showtime 2 in the United States and Slice in Canada on July 5, 2007, as a companion show launched in conjunction with the eighth season of Big Brother; it moved to TVGN on June 26, 2013, coinciding with the debut of the fifteenth season of the parent series. A Canadian version of Big Brother: After Dark was also developed as a companion series to Big Brother Canada, also airing on Slice. The series did not return with the 22nd season of Big Brother in 2020 nor the four seasons after that. It is unknown why but some say it could be due to the Viacom and CBS merger that took place in 2019.

Celebrity Big Brother: After Dark was announced on January 26, 2018 and has received its own title card and promotional videos. Throughout its first season a total of 18 episodes aired. The first season concluded on February 24, 2018. The series was renewed for a second season on December 26, 2018. The second season consisted of 21 episodes and ran from January 23 to February 13, 2019. The series did not return with the 3rd season of Celebrity Big Brother in 2022. It premiered on CBS on January 21, 2019, and concluded on February 13, 2019. It consisted of thirteen episodes, each approximately 60–120 minutes long, with Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan as executive producers for Fly on the Wall Entertainment, in association with Endemol Shine North America. CBS ordered the season on May 12, 2018, and confirmed it for a mid-season return when the network revealed its 2018–19 fall schedule on May 16, 2018. The network confirmed on November 27, 2018, that Julie Chen Moonves would continue her role as host despite media speculation that she may not return after her husband Les Moonves' departure from CBS Corporation due to sexual misconduct allegations against him.
Big Brother is a United States reality television series based on the Dutch television series of the same name created by John de Mol Jr. in 1997. The series premiered on July 5, 2000. The series follows a group of contestants, known as HouseGuests, who live together in a custom–built home under constant surveillance. The HouseGuests are completely isolated from the outside world and generally have no communication from the outside world. In the first season, HouseGuests would nominate two of their fellow HouseGuests. The two HouseGuests with the most votes would be "marked for banishment" and the public then voted on whom to "banish" from the house. When three HouseGuests remained, the public voted on the winner. Despite an initial successful start, ratings and critical reaction continued to grow increasingly negative. This led to the second season being a revamp of the show featuring a more competition–based challenge. Starting with the second season, HouseGuests compete in a series of competitions to win power and safety, they then vote to "evict" one of their own until there are only two HouseGuests remaining. In finale episodes, previous HouseGuests vote on who they think they should win the game, with the HouseGuest who receives the most votes being declared the winner and receiving the grand prize. Casting is currently underway for a 26th season.

The show began airing on 6 August 2021 on Sat.1 and will end after 24 days on 27 August 2021, making it the second longest celebrity season to date. It is the ninth celebrity season and the tenth season of Big Brother in total to air on Sat.1 to date. Jochen Schropp and Marlene Lufen both returned as hosts of the show.
