Samir Ranjan Barman is an Indian politician. He was the Chief Minister of Tripura in India from 19 February 1992 to 10 March 1993 as a member of the Indian National Congress. [2] [3] [4] [5] He is the father of the current legislator from Agartala Constituency and Indian National Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman. He has contested from Bishalgarh constituency in the Assembly elections from 1972 to 2013 in 9 elections consecutively, winning in 1972, 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003 elections. He was the leader of opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998. He is also the former president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee.

Sudip Roy Barman is an Indian politician from Tripura. He served as the MLA of the Tripura Legislative Assembly from the Agartala constituency which he held since 1998 by winning four elections consecutively on INC ticket by handsome margins. In 2018, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on BJP ticket. On 7 February 2022, he quit BJP and resigned from his MLA post. On 8 February he joined the Indian National Congress in Delhi. Again on 23 June 2022, he contested from Agartala constituency and won on INC ticket defeating his nearest rival of BJP by more than 3500 votes.

The 1988 Tripura Legislative Assembly election took place in a single phase on 2 February 1988 to elect the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from each of the 60 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in Tripura, India. More than 100 individuals were killed in election-related violence in the state of Tripura. Government and TNV representatives agreed to a cessation of military hostilities on August 12, 1988. Several thousand individuals were killed, and some 200,000 individuals were displaced during the conflict.
