The San Diego Film Awards are presented annually by the Film Consortium San Diego to recognize the excellence of the film professionals in the San Diego film industry of cinema.
The 1st annual San Diego Film Awards occurred on March 6, 2014, at the Horton Grand Theatre in Downtown San Diego. [1] It was a sold out event and attended by San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Director William Wall took home the most awards of the night for his short film "Zero." [2] [3] In 2015, the 2nd annual event was held on March 7 and returned to the same venue in the Gaslamp Quarter. [4] The 3rd annual event was held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Music Box [5] in Little Italy where the San Diego Film Awards returned to again in 2017. [6] During the 4th award ceremony on April 2, 2017, radio personality "Shotgun" Tom Kelly was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award [7] and Director Terry Ross was awarded for Women in film. [8] The entire event was broadcast on San Diego CW6 one week later on Sunday, April 9. [9]

San Diego is a city in the U.S. state of California on the coast of the Pacific Ocean, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico. With an estimated population of 1,425,976 as of July 1, 2018, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. William Paxton was an American actor and director. He appeared in films such as The Terminator (1984), Commando (1985), Weird Science (1985), Aliens (1986), Near Dark (1987), Predator 2 (1990), Tombstone (1993), True Lies (1994), Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), Titanic (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998), U-571 (2000), Vertical Limit (2000), Frailty (2001), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), Nightcrawler (2014), and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2014). He also starred in the HBO drama series Big Love (2006–2011), earning three Golden Globe Award nominations during the show's run. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for portraying Randall McCoy in the History channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys (2012). His final film appearance was in The Circle (2017), released two months after his death.

Horton Plaza, not to be confused with its adjacent namesake Horton Plaza Park, is a five-level outdoor shopping mall located in downtown San Diego known for its bright colors, architectural tricks, and odd spatial rhythms. It stands on 6.5 city blocks adjacent to the city's historic Gaslamp Quarter. It was the first successful downtown retail center since the rise of suburban shopping centers decades earlier. Nordstrom closed in 2016, leaving a vacant anchor store. The only current anchor store is Macy's. In August 2018, the property was sold to developer Stockdale Capital Partners, which plans to convert it into an office-retail complex.

Casey Patrick Kelly is an American professional baseball pitcher for the LG Twins of the KBO League. He was a first-round draft choice, 30th overall, in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the Boston Red Sox. Kelly was the top minor league prospect in the Red Sox organization when he was acquired by the San Diego Padres after the 2010 season, along with three other prospects, in exchange for All-Star player Adrián González. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut with San Diego in 2012, but underwent Tommy John surgery the following year. Kelly was traded to the Atlanta Braves after the 2015 season. He has also pitched for the San Francisco Giants.
James David Maslow is an American actor and singer. He played the role of James Diamond on Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush and is a former member of the boy band with the same name. He also starred as Kevin Mohr on the Sony Crackle original series Sequestered. In 2014, Maslow competed as a contestant on the eighteenth season of Dancing with the Stars, in which he reached fourth place. In 2018, Maslow was cast as one of the celebrity houseguests on the first American edition of Celebrity Big Brother where Maslow finished in 6th place.
