Sandesaya (Sinhalese language word meaning The Message) is a 1960 film. The film based on the war between the Sinhalese people and the Portuguese invaders in Sri Lanka. It was directed by Sri Lankan film director Lester James Peries. It was produced by K. Gunaratnam on behalf of the Cinemas Company on the request of Raj Kapoor. [1]

Plot

A band of guerrillas led by Bandara (Ananda Jayaratne) lead a resistance against Portuguese invaders. Bandara is in love with Sumana (Kanthi Gunatunga).

Music

The music in the film was composed by R. Muttusamy, a pioneer in Sinhala music. Jothipala's Puruthugeesikaraya was a hit. [2] The lyrics were composed by Arisen Ahubudu. [3]

Weerahannadige Francisco Fernando alias Puran Appu is one of the notable personalities in Sri Lanka's history. He was born on 7 November 1812 in the coastal town of Moratuwa. He left Moratuwa at the age of 13 and stayed in Ratnapura with his uncle, who was the first Sinhalese proctor, and moved to the Uva province. Dinesh Subasinghe is a Sri Lankan composer, violinist, and music producer. He composed Karuna Nadee, a Buddhist oratorio, and re-introduced a lost, ancient musical instrument known as the ravanahatha to Sri Lanka. He is also a film and television composer whose works integrate western and eastern classical music with electronic music, Buddhist music, folk music, traditional orchestral arrangements, and world music genres. From 2002 to 2009 he led the pop classical band, Dee R Cee Members.

Dewa people were one of the four main tribes of ancient Sri Lanka who founded the coalition of Sinhalese nationality. Sinhalese people are an Asura ethnic group of the island of Sri Lanka. They were historically known as Hela people, Ceylonese islanders, and Sinhalese islanders. They constitute about 75% of the Sri Lankan population and number greater than 16.2 million. Aale Corona is a 2021 Sri Lankan family drama film directed by Sanjaya Nirmal and produced by U. A. Palliyaguru for Cloud Films. It stars Jehan Appuhamy and Dishni Rajapaksa in the lead roles along with Wasantha Vittachchi, Deepani Silva, Buddhika Jayaratne in supportive roles. The film has shot in realistic style. FILL-T R and Adisha Beats composed rap music and Seneth Dayantha involved with rock songs in the film. The film was completed in just 17 days during the long COVID-19 epidemic season.

Hathara Denama Soorayo is a 1971 Sri Lankan Sinhala action romantic film directed and produced by Neil Rupasinghe for Samudra Films. The four protagonist roles are played by Gamini Fonseka, Vijaya Kumaratunga, Anthony C. Perera and Senadeera Rupasinghe in lead roles along with Malini Fonseka and Sriyani Amarasena. Music composed by P. L. A. Somapala. It is the 230th Sri Lankan film in the Sinhala cinema. It is the first film in Sinhala cinema to be screened for 100 consecutive days in a single cinema hall. The film also witnessed as the first film in which Gamini Fonseka, Malini Fonseka and Vijaya Kumaratunga act together.
