Sandstrand is a village in Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The village is located along the Vagsfjorden, just west of the minor village of Tovik, at the mouth of the Astafjorden. It is located about midway between the small villages of Evenskjer and Grov. The population (2001) of Sandstrand is 303. [2]

The sports club IL Santor has its base in Sandstrand, though their football grounds is situated in nearby Renså.

Economy

The village boomed economically in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In the 1990s, however, most businesses had to close down due to competition from nearby cities and towns. Since being a thriving village, Sandstrand has arguably dwindled somewhat into rural passivity during recent years. Since then, many inhabitants commute to other areas where employment is easier to find. [3]

Tovik is a village in Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The village is located on the mainland at the entrance of the two fjords; Astafjorden and Vågsfjorden, and at a distance of about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes. Tovik's population (2001) is 151.

Laudal is a village in Lindesnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the western shore of the Mandalselva river, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the village of Bjelland and about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) north of the village of Øyslebø. The village of Laudal has 191 residents (2001). Laudal was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Laudal which existed from 1899 until its dissolution in 1964. Laudal Church is located in the small village.

Losnegard is a very small village in the municipality of Solund in Vestland county, Norway. Constituting the easternmost point of the municipality, it is located near the mouth of the Sognefjorden, about 14.5 kilometres (9.0 mi) northeast of the municipal center of Hardbakke. Losnegard is the only settlement on the island of Losna. There is ferry service from Losnegard to Krakhella and to Rutledal on the mainland in Gulen. The population of Losnegard (2001) was 4.

Kilbotn is a village in Harstad Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The village is located about 12 km (7.5 mi) south of the center of the town of Harstad, along the Vågsfjorden on the east side of Hinnøya island. The villages of Fauskevåg and Sørvika are just a few kilometres to the south of Kilbotn. The population (2001) of the village is 332, but since 2002 it has been considered a part of the Harstad urban area.

Dyrnes is a village in Smøla Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the northwestern part of the island of Smøla, just east of the village of Råket, and southwest of the village of Veiholmen. The Smøla Wind Farm is located southeast of the village.

Fossmoen is a small village in Målselv Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located in the Bardufoss area, about 4 km (2.5 mi) southeast of Bardufoss Airport and the village of Andselv. The village is named after the nearby Bardufossen waterfall. The village of Fossmoen is located about 3 km (1.9 mi) west of the famous waterfall Målselvfossen. The population of Fossmoen (2001) was 147.

Nyttingnes is a hamlet with 28 inhabitants and 9 houses in the municipality of Kinn in Vestland county, Norway. Nyttingnes is located 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) northwest of the village of Steinhovden and about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) across the fjord from the village of Brandsøy. The town of Florø lies about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the west, although the road from Nyttingnes to Florø goes around the fjord via the village of Eikefjord. In recent history, there has been a negative demographic trend in this village. Nyttingnes is made up of the farms: Tunet, Bakken, Pergarden, Ludviggarden, Kvia and Opptun. Historically, the inhabitants were farmers and fishermen. The nearby Skårafjæra beach area is popular for many tourists.

Isane is a village in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It has a ferry connection to the village of Stårheim, located about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) northeast across the Nordfjorden in Stad Municipality. The population (2001) of Isane is 42. Since 2006, the village has become an important seaport for importing yellowfin tuna.

Steinhovden is a village with 119 inhabitants in the municipality of Kinn in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located along the Høydalsfjorden, about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) southeast of the village of Nyttingnes and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of the village of Eikefjord. The village area is divided into 6 farm areas: Seljeset, Høyvik, Holmesund, Steinhovden, Steinvik and Hopen. The chairman of the area is now trying to get a windmill park built to produce electrical energy for the community. The nearby Skårafjæra area is a popular place for tourists. The hunting season begins 11 September and hunters may go after deer, seal, and whales.

Renså is a small village in Tjeldsund Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located just east of the slightly larger village of Tovik, and about 4 km (2.5 mi) east of the village of Sandstrand. The population (2001) of Renså is 69. The village is located next to the Rensåelva river which flows into the Astafjorden from the Rensåvatnet lake. The nearest larger village is Grov, about 11 km (6.8 mi) to the east.

Akkarvik is a small village along the Langfjorden in Skjervøy Municipality, in the northern part of Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located about 14 km (8.7 mi) south of the village of Årviksand and about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) west of the village of Arnøyhamn on the south side of the island of Arnøya. It has been populated since the 17th century. At its peak during the 1950s, about 400 people lived there. There was a shop, post office, and a bakery. By the year 2001, however, the population has dwindled down to 24 people in 14 private homes. In 2021 the population are down to 10.
