Sanjiv Saraf (born December 1958) is an Indian entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author. He is widely recognized as the visionary founder of the Rekhta Foundation [1] [2] an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Urdu literature. Under his leadership, the Rekhta Foundation has curated the Rekhta website, a comprehensive repository of Urdu literary works, and has been instrumental in hosting the prestigious annual event known as Jashn-e-Rekhta since 2015. [3] Saraf is also an accomplished author, having penned notable books such as "Love Longing Loss" and "Nava-e-Sarosh." His literary contributions have made a significant impact on the world of Urdu literature and culture. [4] [5]

Biography

Saraf was born on 30 December 1958. [6] He is an alumnus of Scindia School, Gwalior from where he graduated in 1975. [7] He later graduated from IIT Kharagpur in the year 1980 after which he joined the family business. [8]

In 1984, he established Polyplex Corporation, [9] [10] [8] a major producer of thin polyester films. [11] Polyplex is among the thirty five Indian companies in Forbes Asia's 'Best Under a Billion' list. [12] Manupatra, India’s legal online resource, was also founded by Sanjiv Saraf in the year 2000. [13] [14]

He established the Rekhta Foundation in 2013. [15] He obtained an honorary doctorate from Maulana Azad National Urdu University Hyderabad in 2016 for his work in reviving the interest in Urdu language. [16] [17]

In, 2020 he was awarded with the Madhav Award by the Scindia school. [7] [18]

● 2018 - Sir Syed Excellence Award awarded by Aligarh Muslim University in 2018, for the contribution in promoting Urdu. [19]

● 2020 - Madhav Award by Scindia School, Gwalior in 2020, for the entrepreneurial spirit, community service and promotion of Urdu. [20]

● 2013 - Farogh-e-Urdu Award by Nai Duniya in 2013 for the development of Urdu language. [21]

● 2018 - Alamdar-e-Urdu by Bazm-e-Urdu, Dubai in 2018 for non-scholarly contributions in promoting Urdu. [22] [23]

● 2016 - Mir Taqi Mir Award by AFMI (American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin) in 2016 for the promotion of Urdu language. [24]

Setumadhavarao Pagdi or Sethu Madhav Rao Pagdi was an Indian civil servant, a polyglot linguist, an accomplished historian and a distinguished man of letters specialised in modern Maratha history, especially the history of Shivaji. He also worked as the secretary of Government of Maharashtra. As a secretary he did his job fairly well. Gajra Raja Medical College is the first medical college in Madhya Pradesh, India established in 1946. It was inaugurated on 1 August 1946 by Jiwaji Rao Scindia. The college building was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 5 December 1948. It has 200 undergraduate seats for MBBS course, 68 seats for post graduation courses and 36 seats for diploma courses.

Sanjiv Goenka is an Indian entrepreneur from West Bengal. He is the founder and chairman of RPSG Group and an early-stage investor. Lieutenant General Sami Khan, PVSM, SM was a General in the Indian Army who served as the 13th General officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Command, Lucknow. Gen Khan had earlier served as the Commandant of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

Saliha Abid Hussain was an Indian writer of Urdu literature, considered by many to be one of the prominent writers of modern Urdu novels and children's literature. She is the author of works such as Azra, Rekhta, Yadgaray haliBaat Cheet and Jane Walon ki Yad Ati Hai. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest Indian civilian honour of Padma Shri in 1983. Her life has been documented in a biography, Saliha Abid Hussain, written by Sughra Mehdi and published in 1993.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jashn-e-Rekhta</span> Urdu language literary festival

Jashn-e-Rekhta is the world's largest Urdu language literary festival. It is a three-day event held in New Delhi that celebrates the Urdu language. The festival showcases Urdu poetry, Urdu literature, Qawwali, Islamic calligraphy, with performances such as Ghazal, Sufi music, recitations, panel discussions, debates, conversations on films, and calligraphy workshops. It also includes shopping and a food festival. It provides a platform for Urdu lovers to share their poetry and stories in various open forums. The slogan of the festival is "Celebrating Urdu", and it is attended by a huge number of Urdu enthusiasts, especially people who are younger.

Quaiser Khalid is an Indian Police Service officer from the 1997 batch of the Maharashtra cadre. He possesses extensive experience in diverse areas such as law enforcement, crime control, anti-insurgency operations, mega city policing, traffic management, and Human Resource management. Khalid has held various crucial positions throughout his career, including Superintendent of Police, Commanding Officer in the Armed Police, Deputy and Additional Commissioner of Police in Mumbai, Officiating Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Security Corporation, State Head for Crime Against Women and Children and Weaker Sections in Maharashtra, and Commissioner of Police for Mumbai Railways. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Rekhta (website)</span> Literary web portal for Urdu Literature

Rekhta is an Urdu literary web portal started by Rekhta Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Urdu literature. The Rekhta Library Project, its books preservation initiative, has successfully digitized approximately 200,000 books over a span of ten years. These books primarily consist of Urdu, Hindi and Persian literature and encompass a wide range of genres, including biographies of poets, Urdu poetry, fiction, and nonfiction. The collection originates from public and research libraries in the Indian subcontinent. It serves content in multiple scripts such as Devanagari, Roman and, primarily, Nastaliq. It hosts books from centuries earlier and is recognized as the largest website in the world for the preservation of Urdu literature.
