Maulana Azad National Urdu University is a Central University located in the city of Hyderabad in the Indian state of Telangana. It was named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Minister of Education, a freedom fighter in India's struggle for independence, and a scholar of Islam and Urdu literature. [3] It was the only Urdu university in India until the Dr. Abdul Haq Urdu University was established in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh in 2016.
The university was established by an Act of the Parliament in January 1998, with an All India jurisdiction to promote and develop the Urdu language and to impart vocational and technical Education in Urdu medium through conventional and distance modes. The university has been awarded "A+" Grade by National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). [4]
The university's headquarter at Gachibowli houses buildings for Administration, School of Languages, Linguistics and Indology, School of Education and Training, School of Arts and Social Sciences, School of Mass Communication and Journalism, School of Computer Science & Information Technology, Saiyid Hamid Library, Polytechnic, ITI, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre; Instructional Media Center; Directorate of Distance Education(DDE); Center for Women Studies; Center for Urdu Language; Literature and Culture; Center for Professional Development of Urdu Medium Teachers; Al-Beruni Centre for the study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy; H.K Sherwani Center for Deccan studies and others.
The University has a satellite campus in Lucknow and a campus at Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir). There are Colleges of Teacher Education in Bhopal, Darbhanga, Srinagar, Aurangabad, Sambhal, Asansol, Nuh, Bidar which are guided through School of Education and Training. The University runs five Polytechnic Colleges in Bengaluru, Darbhanga, Hyderabad, Cuttack and Kadapa; four ITIs in Bengaluru, Darbhanga, Hyderabad and Cuttack; and three Urdu Model Schools in Darbhanga, Hyderabad and Nuh (Meewat). Shri Mumtaz Ali alias Sri Madhukarnath has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad by the Visitor in his capacity as the Visitor of the University under statute 1(1) & 2 of the Statutes of the University framed under the MANUU Act effective from 17th December, 2021 for a period of three years.

The Departments are currently offering 84 programs and courses, (25 PhD; 21 PG; 10 UG, 05 PG Diploma and 05 Diploma programs and 2 Certificate courses.
The university is home to the Maulana Azad Library, which was established in 1998. [8] The library subscribes to 27 periodicals in Urdu, 129 in English, nine in Hindi and 40 popular magazines apart from 13 newspapers in Urdu, English, Telugu and Hindi. [8]
The Centre for Urdu Language, Literature & Culture is associated with the university. [9]
Vice-President Hamid Ansari delivered the first Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah memorial lecture at Maulana Azad Urdu University. [10]
Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman is an Indian scholar of Unani medicine. He founded Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine and Sciences in 2000. He had earlier served as Professor and chairman, Department of Ilmul Advia at the Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, for over 40 years before retiring as Dean Faculty of Unani Medicine. Presently, he is serving AMU as "Honorary Treasurer". In 2006, the Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri for his contribution to Unani Medicine.
Manazir Ahsan Gilani was an Indian Sunni Islamic scholar and former Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Osmania University. Some of his notable works include Tadwin-e-Hadith, Muqaddama Tadwin-e-Fiqh, Sawanih-e-Abu Dharr Ghifari, and Sawanih-e-Qasmi. Muhammad Hamidullah, a historian and hadith researcher, was among his students.

Syeda Saiyidain Hameed is an Indian social and women's rights activist, educationist, writer and a former member of the Planning Commission of India. She chaired the Steering Committee of the Commission on Health which reviewed the National Health Policy of 2002, till the dissolution of the body in 2015, to be replaced by NITI Aayog.
Syed Ainul Hasan is former professor of Persian & Central Asian Studies School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has had experience with teaching and research for a period of over thirty-two years, and he has designed courses for University of Kashmir, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Cotton College State University. He played a key role in enhancing Indo Afghan relation by introducing Afghan Resource Centre in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He was awarded President of India certificate of honor award in 2017

The university is named after Dr. Abdul Haq, a renowned educationist and philanthropist of Rayalaseema who is the founder of Osmania College, Kurnool.
Rekha Pande is a Professor Emeritus of history and women's studies at the Henry Martin Institute, an International Centre for Research, Interfaith Relations and Reconciliation, Hyderabad. She is also currently the Director of the Society for Empowerment through Environment Development (SEED). She is the former Head of the Centre for Women's Studies and the former Head of the Department of History at the University of Hyderabad, India. She has also served as a Director Centre for Women's Studies at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad. As a feminist historian, Pande researches the theoretical and methodological problems of reconstructing women's history and understanding the roots of women's subordination within the South Asian context. She also attempts to examine the varied historical contexts at the regional/local levels and explain the reproduction and subordination of women at the national and global scale—in various related, albeit different, contemporary contexts. She is an academic activist also associated with the women's movement in India.
Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi was an Indian Islamic scholar and an Urdu-language author who co-founded the Nadwatul Musannifeen. He served as the dean of the Faculty of Theology in Aligarh Muslim University.

Abul Kalam Qasmi Shamsi is an Indian Islamic scholar, author, essayist and an Urdu translator of the Qur'an. He has been the principal of Madrasa Islamia Shamsul Huda, Patna, for about thirteen years. Some of his works included Tazkira Ulama e Bihār, Tahrīk e Aazādi Mein Ulama e Kirām Ka Hissa, Bihār Ki Urdu Shā'irī Mein Ulama Ka Hissa and Tashīl-ul-Qur'an.
Ishtiaque Ahmad Qasmi is an Indian Islamic scholar, mufti, and writer. He has been serving as a teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband since 2008. He is an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband and Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
Muhammadullah Khalili Qasmi is an Indian Islamic scholar, mufti, writer, and trilingual translator of Urdu, Arabic, and English. He is an alumnus of Darul Uloom Deoband, Markazul Maarif, Jamia Millia Islamia, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, and Jamia Hamdard; and has written several books in English, Urdu, and Arabic.
Al Mahadul Aali Al Islami, Hyderabad, also written as Al Mahad Al Aali Al Islami or Al Mahad Ul Aali Al Islami, is an Islamic institute located in Hyderabad, Telangana. It was founded in January 2000 by Khalid Saifullah Rahmani. The primary goal of its establishment is to train fresh graduates from Islamic institutions in various Islamic subjects. It also provides training in modern topics such as Islamic finance, banking, and the stock market.
Omar Abedeen Qasmi Madani is an Indian Islamic scholar, mufti, and writer who serves as the deputy director of Al Mahadul Aali Al Islami, Hyderabad. He is an alumnus of Darul Uloom Sabil-us-Salam of Hyderabad, Darul Uloom Deoband, Al Mahadul Aali Al Islami, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Osmania University, and the Islamic University of Madinah. He has written several books, including Uloom-ul-Hadīth, Hindustān Mein Islam Ki Aamad Aur Ishā'at, Huqūq Aur Unki Kharīd-o-Farokht, Qurān-e-Karīm: Aadāb o Ahkām, and Ulama-e-Hind Ki Chand Aham Qurani Khidmāt.
