Hyderabad Hotshots was a badminton franchise team representing the city of Hyderabad in the Indian Badminton League(IBL). The team was one of the six franchises in the inaugural IBL 2013. The franchise was owned by Andhra Pradesh's multi business group PVP Ventures. [1] The primary home ground of Hyderabad Hotshots was Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Hotshots was captained by Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal and coached by Rajendra.

Franchise history

Badminton Association of India(BAI) announced a franchise league known as "Indian Badminton League" with six franchises representing six Indian cities. PVP Ventures chairman, Prasad V Potluri, was the first to bid for Hyderabad Hotshots and also to own one of the first franchises announced by IBL. The first season player auctions were held on 22 July 2013. Player auctions were held in Delhi and the Hyderabad Hotshots bid of $120,000 for player Saina Nehwal was successful. Nehwal was the highest paid female shuttler and second highest paid shuttler overall in the tournament behind World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia with a bid of $135,000 by Mumbai Masters.

The franchise has been terminated and got replaced by Hyderabad Hunters in 2016 PBL.

Semi-final

Hyderabad Hotshots qualified for semi-final after scoring 17 points from the league matches. The semi-final was held at their home ground Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on 28 August 2013. Hyderabad Hotshots faced Pune Pistons in the semi-final.

Final

Hyderabad Hotshots qualified for final after defeating Pune Pistons in semi-finals. The final was held at National Sports Club of India, Mumbai on 31 August 2013. Hyderabad Hotshots faced Awadhe Warriors in the final.

Lim Khim Wah is a Malaysian badminton player from Penang who plays in the doubles category. His men's doubles partner was Goh V Shem until late 2014. They two won their first Superseries title at the 2014 Malaysia Open. Together with Goh, Lim reached a career high as world number 11 in the men's doubles in May 2013. In 2015, Lim resigned from the Badminton Association of Malaysia. In 2022, Lim teamed up with Nur Mohd Azyriyn Ayub, they started their career in three back-to-back tournaments in India, with the India Open as the first tournament.

The 2010 India Grand Prix was a badminton tournament that was held at Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India from 14 to 19 December 2010 and had a total purse of $50,000. This tournament was moved from Lucknow to Hyderabad, allegedly due to the infighting in the Badminton Association of India.

The 2011 India Open Grand Prix also known as Yonex–Sunrise Syed Modi Memorial India Open Grand Prix Gold was a badminton tournament which took place at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium in Lucknow, India from 20 to 25 December 2011 and had a total purse of $120,000. This is for the first time this tournament was graded as a Grand Prix Gold event, where before rate as Grand Prix event. This tournament was part of the qualification stage of 2012 Summer Olympics.

The 2022 Taipei Open was a badminton tournament which took place at Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium in Taipei, Taiwan, from 19 to 24 July 2022 and had a total purse of $500,000.
