Chennai Superstarz (formerly known as Chennai Smashers) is a franchise badminton team based in Chennai that plays in the Premier Badminton League (PBL). The team has won the PBL title once, has been in the semi-finals of the league twice in their five appearances. They won the 2017 season beating Mumbai Rockets 3–2. The franchise was renamed from Chennai Smashers to Chennai Superstarz in 2020.
The team's first season in the PBL was in 2016. [4] [5] Vijay Prabhakaran initially owned the franchise from 2016 to 2019. [6] [7] In December 2019, Sivakumar who owns a regional badminton league named Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League acquired the franchise to become its new owner. [2] The franchise also changed its name into Chennai Superstarz for the 2020 season. [8]
Rio Olympics silver medallist P. V. Sindhu was part of the team for the first three seasons. [6] [9] They won their first and only PBL title in 2017. With P. V. Sindhu in their roster, they defeated Mumbai Rockets 3–2 in the final at New Delhi. [10] During the third and fourth seasons, the team finished sixth. They failed to get past Northeastern Warriors in the semi-finals (-1)–3. The team is currently coached by Aravindan Samiappan.
From 2017, the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium serves as the home for the team. [11] The stadium located in Chennai, has a seating capacity of 5,000. [12] In 2016, there was no home venue for the team due to unavailability of Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium in Chennai and Coimbatore. [6]

Chennai Superstarz finished third in the league stage with 22 points qualifying for the semifinals. They won all of their trump matches becoming the only team in the season to do so. They lost to Northeastern Warriors in the semifinal. This was their second PBL semifinal loss in five appearances.

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, popularly known as PV Sindhu, is an Indian badminton player. Considered as one of India's most successful athletes, Sindhu has won medals at various tournaments such as the Olympic Games, the World Championships, and on the World Tour. She is the first and only Indian to become the badminton world champion and only the second individual from India to win two consecutive medals at the Olympic Games. She rose to a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in April 2017.

Chennai City Football Club was an Indian professional football club based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Sachin Tendulkar became a co-owner of Bengaluru Topguns before the season and they were renamed as Bengaluru Blasters.

Chennai Smashers beat Awadhe Warriors 4-1 and Mumbai Rockets beat Hyderabad Hunters 3-(-1) to proceed to the final. Chennai Smashers won the tournament after beating Mumbai Rockets 4-3.
Tamil Thalaivas is an Indian professional kabaddi franchise based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The team competes in the Pro Kabaddi League and was added as one of the four additional franchises when the league was expanded in 2017. The team plays its home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai and is owned by Magnum Sports.
Delhi Dashers was one of the Badminton teams competing in the Premier Badminton League (PBL). Delhi Dashers have been a part of the PBL since its inception and their best finish arrived in the Season 2 (2016), after defeating Mumbai Rockets in the finals. Owned by Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., who became the new owners of the franchise from third season onwards, Delhi Dashers finished at the third position in the PBL season III (2017).

Pro Volleyball League (PVL) was a professional men's indoor volleyball league in India. The inaugural season took place in February 2019. The league was an initiative between the Volleyball Federation of India, Head Digital Works Pvt. Ltd. and Baseline Ventures. The inaugural season of the league was won by Chennai Spartans. Later in the year 2022 the league was rebranded as Prime Volleyball League.

Pune 7 Aces is a franchise badminton team based in Pune that plays in the Premier Badminton League. The franchise was formed in 2018 and has competed only in the season of 2018–19. The team is owned by Indian actress Tapsee Pannu and KRI Entertainment. The team is coached by Mathias Boe.
