The Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) is a T10 Tennis ball Cricket league which had its first season take place from 6-15 March 2024. [1] It is meant to help uncover emerging cricketing talent, [2] with matches played using tennis balls. [3] [4] The entire competition was played at Dadoji Kondadev Stadium, Thane, Maharashtra. [5]

History

The ISPL was inspired by a cricket talent hunt which took place in 2021 in the Dharavi slums, with the idea being to help poorer athletes have a chance to play professional cricket. [6]

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has been named as the Core Committee member of the tournament alongside BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar and Amol Kale. Former Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri has been appointed as the chief mentor of the tournament. [7]

The first season had an overall viewership of 11 million, and 500,000 fans attending the matches. [8] The ISPL has announced plans to start a 6-team Middle East edition in the future. [9]

Teams

A record bid of 1,165 crore (US$140 million) was made for six teams, [10] with Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's Srinagar Ke Veer fetching the highest bid of 251 crore (US$30 million) from Sanjay Gupta and Rohan Gupta’s SG Sports Pvt. Ltd. [11]

Format

The winning team of the inaugural ISPL season earns 1 crore (US$120,000), while the runner-up gets 50 lakh (US$60,000). [6]

Gameplay modifications

The following rule modifications to the T10 format are in effect in ISPL matches: [14] [15] [16]

Player auction

96 players were selected out of a pool of 350 players. [20] A total of 4.91 crore (US$590,000) was spent on the players selected. [12] [21]

ISPL 2024 team spendings

The total salary cap of each team was 1 crore (US$120,000). Chennai Singams were the highest and Srinagar Ke Veer were the lowest spenders.

Shardul Narendra Thakur is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and has previously appeared for several Indian Premier League teams. Nicholas Pooran is a Trinidadian cricketer who currently represents the West Indies cricket team in limited overs formats and occasionally serves as the team's captain. He also competes domestically for Trinidad and Tobago and plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pooran made his international debut for the West Indies in September 2016. In May 2022, he was appointed captain of the West Indies limited-overs team. Shreyas Santosh Iyer is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team as a right-handed batter. Currently, he plays for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.He has played in all formats for the Indian cricket team. Iyer scored a century in his debut test match and a half-century in the second innings against New Zealand in November 2021, thus becoming the first Indian player to achieve the milestone. Iyer plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and captained the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League from 2022 to 2024. He played for the India Under-19 cricket team at the 2014 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He was named in the India Squad for 2023 Cricket World Cup, and scored a century against New Zealand in the semi-finals. He was a part of the Indian squad that won the 2023 Asia Cup. He won his first IPL title as captain in the 2024 Indian Premier League, becoming the 5th Indian player to lead a team to the IPL title victory.

Riyan Parag Das is an Indian international cricketer who currently plays in limited-overs formats for India. He is a batting all-rounder and is the youngest player to score 50 in IPL at the age 17 Years 175 days, he bats right-handed in the middle-order and is capable of bowling both right-arm leg spin and off spin. He was a part of the team that won the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He is the captain of Assam in domestic cricket and plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shivam Dube</span> Indian cricketer (born 1993)

Shivam Dube is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL). An all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm at medium pace, Dube is known for his ability to hit massive sixes. He made his international debut for the India cricket team in November 2019. He was a member of the Indian team that won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and played a crucial knock of 27 runs out of 16 balls at a strike rate of 168.75 in the final against South Africa.

The 2017 Indian Premier League final was a day/night Twenty20 cricket match between the Mumbai Indians and the Rising Pune Supergiant, on 21 May 2017, at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad. It was held to determine the winner of the 2017 season of the Indian Premier League, an annual Twenty20 tournament in India.

T10 cricket or Ten10 cricket is a short form of cricket. Two teams play a single innings, which is restricted to a maximum of ten overs per side, with the game lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Pushkar Shivkumar Sharma, is a Kenyan cricketer, formerly captained the Mumbai Under-16 team and currently represents the Kenya national cricket team, sponsored by IndiaFirst Life Insurance. He is also the brand ambassador for IndiaFirst Life Insurance headquartered in Mumbai, India.
