Saurashtra cricket team is one of the three first-class cricket teams based in Gujarat (the others being Baroda and Gujarat) that compete in the first-class tournament Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Competition history

Previous teams competing from Saurashtra were Nawanagar and Western India. Nawanagar won the Ranji Trophy in 1936–37 and were runners up in 1937–38. [1] Western India won the Ranji Trophy in 1943–44.

Saurashtra began competing in the 1950-51 Ranji Trophy. They were runners-up in the Ranji Trophy to Mumbai in 2012–13 and 2015–16 and in 2018–19 against Vidarbha. They finally won the Ranji Trophy for the first time in 2019–20 when they beat Bengal on first-innings lead in the final at Rajkot. [2]

The West Zone cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents western India in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. It is a composite team of players from five first-class Indian teams from western India competing in the Ranji Trophy: Baroda, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai and Saurashtra. West Zone has the best track record of all the zones in the Duleep Trophy, as they have won the Trophy 17 times, similar to North Zone. This included four consecutive titles from 1961 to 1962 through to the 1964–65 season, although the third of these were shared with South Zone. Playing against South Zone at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in the 2009-10 Duleep Trophy final, West Zone set a new first-class record for the highest fourth innings total to win a match, scoring 541/7.

The Baroda cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat. The home ground of the team is the Moti Bagh Stadium on the palace grounds.

The Uttar Pradesh cricket team, formerly United Provinces Cricket Team, is a domestic cricket team which is based in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, run by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. The team competes in the first-class cricket tournament Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They have won the Ranji Trophy in 2005–06 and have been runners-up on five occasions. The Vidarbha cricket team is an Indian domestic cricket team plays in the India's domestic first-class cricket competition Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It represents the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra. In December 2017, they reached the final of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in their history, after they beat Karnataka by 5 runs in the semi-finals of the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy tournament. In the final, they beat Delhi by 9 wickets to win their first Ranji Trophy. In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Vidarbha successfully defended the crown by defeating Saurashtra by 78 runs in the final played at Nagpur.

The Nawanagar cricket team was an Indian domestic cricket team active in first-class cricket from 1936 until 1947, operating in the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy for twelve seasons. It was based in Jamnagar, Gujarat, then part of the Nawanagar State.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is a domestic Twenty20 cricket championship in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), among the teams from the Ranji Trophy. It is named after former Test cricketer Syed Mushtaq Ali. In 2006–07, the inaugural competition was won by Tamil Nadu under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik. The 2023–24 tournament was won by Punjab, who defeated Baroda in the final. Tamil Nadu have been the most successful team, winning the trophy three times.

Ankit Ramdas Bawne is an Indian cricketer who plays for Maharashtra in Indian domestic cricket. A right-handed middle-order batsman with a first-class average of over 50, he has represented India Under-23s and West Zone.

Rajkumar Shri Indravijaysinhji Dilawarsinhji Jadeja was an Indian cricketer. A descendant of the ruling family of Nawanagar State, and a nephew of Ranjitsinhji, who played Test cricket for England, Indravijaysinhji was introduced to cricket at the Rajkumar College, Rajkot where most of his family had been educated. He went on to play Ranji Trophy matches for Western India, Nawanagar, and Saurashtra, captaining Nawanagar. He also appeared for several combined teams against touring international sides, and finished his career with 28 first-class matches and a single first-class century.

Debu Mitra is a former Indian first-class cricketer who played for Bengal cricket team from 1968/69 to 1973/74. He became a cricket coach in the 1990s and works as the head coach of Saurashtra cricket team.

Kushang Patel is an Indian first-class cricketer who plays for Saurashtra. He made his debut in first-class for Gujarat in the 2012–13 Ranji Trophy on 17 November 2012. He made his List A debut for Saurashtra in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy on 25 February 2017. He made his Twenty20 debut for Saurashtra in the 2017–18 Zonal T20 League on 8 January 2018.

The Pondicherry cricket team is a cricket team that represents the union territory of Puducherry in Indian domestic competitions. In July 2018, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the team as one of the nine new sides that would compete in domestic tournaments for the 2018–19 season, including the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The 2019–20 Ranji Trophy was the 86th season of the Ranji Trophy, the premier first-class cricket tournament in India. It took place between December 2019 and March 2020. Chandigarh competed in the Ranji Trophy for the first time. Vidarbha were the defending champions.

The 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy was the 28th edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, an annual List A cricket tournament in India. The tournament took place from 20 February to 14 March 2021. Karnataka were the defending champions.
