The Baroda cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the city of Vadodara, Gujarat. The home ground of the team is the Moti Bagh Stadium on the palace grounds.
The team is run by the Baroda Cricket Association. It has been one of the most successful teams in the Ranji Trophy in the new millennium.
Baroda were runners-up in the 2005/06 Ranji Trophy. It is one of three Gujarat Teams, the others being the Saurashtra cricket team and Gujarat cricket team.
Baroda has only emerged as a strong team in recent years. It won its last Ranji Trophy in 2000–01, but failed to defend the title, coming runner-up in the next year. This means it has had only one Irani Trophy appearance, in which it failed to defeat a strong Rest of India team which contained the likes of VVS Laxman (13 & 148), Dinesh Mongia (125 & 90*), Debashish Mohanty, Sarandeep Singh and Akash Chopra. See Scorecard. It was considered a strong team in the 1940s and 1950s, winning 4 times and coming runner-up twice. Vijay Hazare, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Hardik Pandya are amongst the most prominent cricketers to emerge from Baroda. They have performed exceedingly well at the international level for India.

Irfan Pathan is an Indian cricket commentator, analyst and former cricketer. He was a bowling all-rounder and member of the Indian cricket team that won the inaugural 2007 ICC Twenty20 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
Anshuman Dattajirao Gaekwad was an Indian cricketer and two-time Indian national cricket coach. In a career spanning over a decade, he played 40 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals between 1974 and 1984. His father, Datta Gaekwad was also an Indian test cricketer. Gaekwad was the coach of the Indian team that finished runners-up at the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy.
Vadodara district, also known as Baroda district, is situated in the eastern part of the state of Gujarat in western India. The administrative headquarters of the district is the city of Vadodara (Baroda). The district covers an area of 7,794 km2 and had a population of 4,165,626 as of 2011. Out of this population, 49.6% were urban, 50.4% were rural, 5.3% were Scheduled Castes and 27.6% were Scheduled Tribes. As of 2011, Vadodara district is the third most populous district of Gujarat, out of 33 districts in the state.
The Punjab cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents the Indian state of Punjab. They have qualified for only one Ranji Trophy semi-final in the last five seasons and made it to the final in the 2004–05 tournament, where they lost to Railways in the first innings. They also play in other domestic cricket tournaments in India. They have been winners of the Ranji Trophy only once, in the 1992–93 season.
The West Zone cricket team is a first-class cricket team that represents western India in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy. It is a composite team of players from five first-class Indian teams from western India competing in the Ranji Trophy: Baroda, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Mumbai and Saurashtra. West Zone has the best track record of all the zones in the Duleep Trophy, as they have won the Trophy 19 times. This included four consecutive titles from 1961–1962 through to the 1964–65 season, although the third of these were shared with South Zone. Playing against South Zone at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in the 2009-10 Duleep Trophy final, West Zone set a new first-class record for the highest fourth innings total to win a match, scoring 541/7.
The Uttar Pradesh cricket team, formerly United Provinces Cricket Team, is a domestic cricket team which is based in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, run by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. The team competes in the first-class cricket tournament Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. They have won the Ranji Trophy in 2005–06 and have been runners-up on five occasions. Cricketers such as Suresh Raina, Mohammad Kaif, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Sudeep Tyagi have passed through Uttar Pradesh and gone on to represent India.
Karnataka cricket team represents the Indian state of Karnataka in domestic cricket competitions. It has traditionally been one of the strongest teams in the domestic circuit and has produced many of Indian cricket team's iconic players. It was known as Mysore cricket team before the state of Mysore was officially renamed as Karnataka in 1973. It has won the Ranji Trophy eight times and been runners-up six times. The Maharashtra cricket team is a state cricket team that represents the Maharashtra state in domestic cricket of India. It is governed by Maharashtra Cricket Association. It plays its home matches at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
The Vidarbha cricket team is an Indian domestic cricket team plays in the India's domestic first-class cricket competition Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It represents the Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra. In December 2017, they reached the final of the Ranji Trophy for the first time in their history, after they beat Karnataka by 5 runs in the semi-finals of the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy tournament. In the final, they beat Delhi by 9 wickets to win their first Ranji Trophy. In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, Vidarbha successfully defended the crown by defeating Saurashtra by 78 runs in the final played at Nagpur.
Yusuf Khan Pathan is an Indian former cricketer and politician of the Trinamool Congress. Pathan made his debut in first-class cricket in 2001/02. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. His younger brother, Irfan Pathan was also an Indian cricketer. Pathan retired from all forms of cricket in February 2021. He was a member of the Indian team that won both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup. As of June 2024, Pathan is a Member of Parliament from the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal.

Hardik Himanshu Pandya is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian cricket team. An all-rounder who bats right-handed in the middle-order and bowls right-arm fast-medium deliveries. He is currently one of the best all-rounders in the world in white-ball cricket. Pandya has represented India in all 3 formats. He captains Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He occasionally plays for his regional team Baroda in domestic cricket. He captained Indian team for some time and was the vice captain of the team that won the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he bowled the last match-winning over in the final.

He was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore to play in 2025 Indian Premier League. He plays for Baroda in domestic cricket. He is an all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox. He made his international debut for the Indian cricket team in November 2018. In 2021, he scored the fastest half-century by a cricketer on ODI debut. He is the elder brother of cricketer Hardik Pandya.
Muralikrishna Prasidh Krishna is an Indian international cricketer who plays for Indian national cricket team. He also plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He made his One Day International debut for the Indian cricket team on 23 March 2021 in their home series against England and picked up 4 wickets in the match, breaking a 24-year-old Indian record for most wickets on ODI debut. He was a part of the Indian squad which won the 2023 Asia Cup and became runners up in 2023 Cricket World Cup
Sports retain a very valuable position in the culture of Gujarat. Some of the popular sports played in Gujarat are cricket, kho-kho, badminton, football, kabaddi and table tennis. The Sports Authority of Gujarat presides and supervises the sporting activities under the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department. There have been many successful and popular initiatives undertaken by the authority to encourage the sports culture in Gujarat, Khel Mahakumbh' being an example. Gujarat has various levels of sports competitions including events of both larger and smaller levels.
Samarjitsinh Ranjitsinh Gaekwad is a cricket administrator and former first-class cricketer. Gaekwad is the titular king/ Maharaja of princely state of Baroda in India. He received the larger portion of the family's fortune in a 2013 settlement.
