Central University of Kashmir (often abbreviated as cukashmir), formerly Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, is a central university located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. [3] It has been established in March 2009 through an Act of Parliament, "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. [4] The university started functioning from May 2009. [5]
The Central University of Kashmir offers a three-year bachelor's degree programme in vocational studies (BVoc), a five-year integrated bachelor's degree programme in arts and laws (BA-LLB), five-year integrated bachelor's and master's degree programmes (BSc-MSc) in biotechnology, mathematics, physics and zoology, a three-year integrated bachelor's and master's degree programme in Education (BEd-MEd) and postgraduate programmes, including LLM, MA, MBA, MCom, MSc, MTech and MTTM. These programmes are offered through different academic departments. At present, the available disciplines are Biotechnology, Business Administration, Commerce, Comparative Religion, Computer Science, Convergent Journalism, Economics, Education, English, Information Technology, Islamic Studies, Law, Mathematics, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Teacher Education, Travel and Tourism Management, Urdu, Vocational Studies (in two branches: 1. Retail and Logistic Management & 2. Tourism and Hospitality Management), and Zoology. [6] In addition, research programmes like integrated MPhil-PhD programme in Biotechnology, Economics, Education, English, Journalism, Management Studies, Mathematics, Political Science, Religious Studies, Tourism Studies, and Urdu and direct PhD programme in Law along with few PG diploma programmes (in Guidance and Counselling, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Alternate Banking) are also offered by the university. The Central University of Kashmir earlier started its operation from rented accommodations in Hyderpora, Nowgam, Sonwar areas of Srinagar district. It started shifting to its originally allotted district Ganderbal in 2018 and was completely shifted to Ganderbal in 2019. [8] [9] [10]
The university currently operates from four campuses in district Ganderbal: Green Campus at Duderhama, Science Campus at Nunar, Science and Arts Campus at Old Hospital Building, Ganderbal, and Main Campus at Tulmulla. [11]
The main campus at Tulmulla is distributed over a large area of more than 500 acres of land. However, many of its buildings are under construction. [12] [13]
The President of India is the Visitor of the University. The Chancellor is the ceremonial head of the university while the executive powers rest with the Vice-chancellor. The Court, the Executive Council, the Academic Council, the Board of studies and the Finance Committee are the administrative authorities of the university.
The University Court is the supreme authority of the university and has the power to review, the broad policies and programmes of the university and to suggest measures for the improvement and development of the university; The Executive Council is the highest executive body of the university. The Academic Council is the highest academic body of the university and is responsible for the co-ordination and exercising general supervision over the academic policies of the university. It has the right to advise the Executive Council on all academic matters. The Finance Committee is responsible for recommending financial policies, goals, and budgets. [4]

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University,, commonly referred to as SMVD University or SMVDU, is a Government Owned Higher Institution/University located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It was founded in 1999, as fully residential and technical university, a Public University recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B) and is established on an 1,070-acre (430 ha) residential and provides technical education in the field of engineering, science, management, philosophy and other subjects, with all technical courses recognised by AICTE, University Grants Commission (India), National Board of Accreditation and Council of Architecture.

It focuses on undergraduate engineering courses, a diverse postgraduate courses and research in fields such as management, environment, biodiversity, bio-technology, computer sciences, information technology, and applied mathematics. Akbar Masood was appointed as Vice Chancellor on 13 February 2021.

Central University of Haryana is a central university in Jant-Pali villages, just 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the City of Mahendragarh in Mahendragarh district of Haryana, India, has been established by an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by the Government of India. Talat Ahmad is an Indian Earth scientist and former professor at department of Geology, University of Delhi. Currently, he is serving as Chairman of Governing body which oversees Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun from December 2021 onwards and has taken full charge from 1 June 2022. Previously, he commenced his second stint as vice chancellor of University of Kashmir on 6 August 2018 and served the office till 20 May 2022. After serving as vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, he resigned from the post a few months short of his full term. He was shortlisted by a committee constituted by the governor to shortlist a panel for the post. He had earlier taken over as Vice-chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011. Prior to this, he was teaching geology at the University of Delhi.

The Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ), is a collegiate public state university, located in Jammu in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a cluster of five colleges of the Jammu city. It was established in 2016 under The Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act, 2016 together with Cluster University of Srinagar under the initiative of the centrally sponsored scheme, RUSA. Cluster University of Jammu along with Cluster University of Srinagar was inaugurated by Prakash Javadekar, then Minister of HRD, Government of India on 17 April 2017.
Professor Akbar Masood is the Vice Chancellor at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir. Before joining Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, he served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kashmir. He has a Master of Sciences from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research. He remained associated with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir as a member of the faculty since 1988. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in February 2021.
Nilofer Khan is an Indian academic and author who currently serves as the vice-chancellor of the University of Kashmir. She was appointed the first woman vice-chancellor of the University on 19 May 2022.
