Santa Clara Valley Athletic League

Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) is a high school athletic conference and part of the CIF Central Coast Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. [1] Its 14+ member schools are in the northern part of the Santa Clara Valley. Each sport is divided into two leagues based on strength. The De Anza League is for stronger teams and El Camino League is for weaker teams. [1]

History

The SCVAL was established in 1973 and had 13 founding members: Awalt, Buchser, Cupertino, Fremont, Homestead, Los Altos, Lynbrook, Monta Vista, Mountain View, Peterson (closed 1981), Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Wilcox. In 1974 the league decided to split into the two divisions based on strength. In 1976, Saratoga transferred from the West Valley Athletic League (WVAL) to the DAL. In 1981 Sunnyvale High School closed and St. Francis joined the Girls Division. Around 1982, Mt. View High School closed its Castro Street and the name transferred to the Awalt High School building. The same year, Santa Clara closed the downtown location which became Buchser Middle School, and the Santa Clara High School name transferred to the Buchser High School location. In 1981, Peterson was converted into a Middle School. In 1988 Los Gatos joined the DAL, also leaving the WVAL. In 2002 St Francis left the DAL to join the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL).

Joe Simitian American politician

Saren Joseph Simitian is a California Democratic politician. From 2004 to 2012, he was the State Senator representing California's 11th State Senate district, which encompasses all or part of 13 cities in San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties. Approaching his term limit at the end of 2012, he ran for and was elected as a Santa Clara County Supervisor. He was re-elected to the same seat in 2016 and again in 2020.

CUSD's jurisdiction covers the communities of Cupertino, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Saratoga, and Los Altos. CUSD operates nineteen elementary schools (K-5) and five middle schools (6-8), and one (K-8) school. It is a feeder for the Fremont Union High School District.

Adrian C. Wilcox High School is a public school located in Santa Clara, California. It is one of two high schools serving those living within the boundaries of the Santa Clara Unified School District. The school is named after Adrian C. Wilcox, who served on the Santa Clara Union High School Board of Trustees for over 30 years. Wilcox was first accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 1966 and is accredited through 2009. In April 2005, Wilcox officially became a California Distinguished School.

Santa Clara County Library District

The Santa Clara County Library District is a public library system headquartered in Campbell, California. The library serves the communities and cities of Campbell, Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Monte Sereno, Morgan Hill, Saratoga, and all unincorporated areas of Santa Clara County. Other cities in Santa Clara County run their own library systems. In addition to these libraries, the library provides mobile library service with a bookmobile which visits preschools, retirement communities, migrant farmworker camps, and rural communities without easy access to library services. In 2020 SCCLD also launched a new website featuring a 24/7 online library.

Center for the Development of Recycling

The Center for the Development of Recycling (CDR) is a university-based, non-profit, environmental research and service organization. The CDR operates the recycling and reuse website RecycleStuff.org for the counties of Santa Clara and San Mateo, a recycling call center and household hazardous waste appointment system for Santa Clara County, and has completed over 60 contracted projects. The CDR is located in the Department of Environmental Studies at San Jose State University (SJSU). Faculty-managed service-learning university students collect and populate the website with data, respond to information requests from the public, and work on recycling and waste reduction projects for the community. CDR student's provide the community with a cost-effient public service. Hundreds of its service learning students have completed internships with local government and industry and over 100 have transitioned from college to sustainable materials management careers with industry and government.

Barron Creek

Barron Creek is a 5.8-mile-long (9.3 km) northward-flowing stream originating in the lower foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in Los Altos Hills in Santa Clara County, California, United States. It courses northerly through the cities of Los Altos Hills and Palo Alto, before joining Adobe Creek just south of U.S. Highway 101. As Adobe Creek, its waters continue northwards to southwest San Francisco Bay after crossing under Highway 101 and traversing the Palo Alto Flood Basin.

Ralph Robertson is an American former professional soccer midfielder. He last played for Seattle Sounders of the USL A-League.

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is the board of supervisors governing Santa Clara County, California. It is made of elected representatives from each of the county's five districts.
