Santanu Bose is an Indian-theatre director and drama teacher. He has worked extensively on multicultural issues in collaborative process. [1] He is the dean of the academic affairs [2] and associate professor, World Drama of National School of Drama, (NSD) New Delhi. [3] [4]
Bose studied comparative literature at Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1992. He started his theatre career with an apprenticeship under Tripti Mitra. He further studied design and direction at National School of Drama, New Delhi in 1992–1995. In 1996, he was awarded Charles Wallace Fellowship and went on to study acting at Drama Studio London. There he acted in the play Our Man with an international cast under the direction of Peter Layton.
He came back to India and started working as a lecturer in art direction at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata and later he joined the National School of Drama as assistant professor of World drama. [5] He has also taught as visiting faculty at Rabindra Bharati University, University of Hyderabad, Jamia Milia University, and Indira Gandhi Nation Open University.[ citation needed ]
Bose received critical acclaim as an actor in the short film Sunder Jeebon, directed by Sandeep Chaterjee. [6] He has done research and sections of dialogue for the Film "Name of a River" by Anup Singh [7] [8] and done Art Direction for the film Reaching Silence by Jahar Kanungo. [9]
He has also created over 60 theatre pieces in India, England, Australia, Germany, France and Belgium.[ citation needed ] In 2000, he founded Monirath Theatre Group, in Calcutta. The German-Indian theatre collaborations with the Goethe Institute Calcutta have been an important part in the work done by his group. [10] Some of the notable works are:
The Threepenny Opera is a 1928 German "play with music" by Bertolt Brecht, adapted from a translation by Elisabeth Hauptmann of John Gay's 18th-century English ballad opera, The Beggar's Opera, and four ballads by François Villon, with music by Kurt Weill. Although there is debate as to how much, if any, contribution Hauptmann might have made to the text, Brecht is usually listed as sole author.

Bansi Kaul was an Indian theatre director and the founder of Rang Vidushak, a theatre group in Bhopal. He was a recipient of the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor, in 2014, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995. Babukodi Venkataramana Karanth widely known as B. V. Karanth was an Indian film director, playwright, actor, screenwriter, composer, and dramatist known for his works in the Kannada theatre, Kannada cinema, and Hindi cinema. One of the pioneers of the Parallel Cinema, Karanth was an alumnus of the National School of Drama (1962) and later, its director. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1976), six National Film Awards, and the civilian honor Padma Shri for his contributions towards the field of art.
National School of Drama (NSD) is a theatre training institute situated at New Delhi, India. It is an autonomous organization under Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It was set up in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi and became an independent school in 1975. In 2005, it was granted deemed university status, but in 2011 it was revoked. Prasanna, is a major Indian theatre director and playwright from Karnataka. He is one of the pioneers of modern Kannada theatre. He graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD). He founded Samudaya and gave a creative direction to Kannada theatre in the 1970s with other activists. Prasanna lives in Heggodu in Karnataka. He is known for his organisational skills and new ideas and innovations in theatre. He is a Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee. He has directed plays for National School of Drama, Ninasam, Rangamandal-Bhopal, Rangayana and worked with many theatre organizations of India. He elected as National President of Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA).
Atul Kulkarni is an Indian actor, producer and screenwriter who works in Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, English, Odia and Telugu language films. Kulkarni won the National Award for the Best Supporting Actor for the films Hey Ram and Chandni Bar. He is also the president of Quest, a research-action organization concentrating on enhancing quality of education. He left his study in engineering at College of Engineering, Pune while he was in his first year. Ebrahim Alkazi was an Indian theatre director and drama teacher. A rigid disciplinarian, he instilled in his acting students an awe and reverence that they still carry with them, with several of them having had the privilege of continuing the practice and training in the NSD Repertory Company, an introduction made to the National School of Drama by Alkazi. His standards later became very influential. He also remained the Director of National School of Drama, New Delhi (1962–1977). He was also a noted art connoisseur, collector and gallery owner, and founded the Art Heritage Gallery in Delhi with his wife, Roshen Alkazi.

Manohar Singh was an Indian theatre actor-director and character actor in Hindi films. He is best known for his performances in films such as Party (1984) and Daddy (1989).
