Santo Domingo, once known as Santo Domingo de Guzmán and Ciudad Trujillo, is the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic and the largest metropolitan area in the Caribbean by population. As of 2022, the city and immediate surrounding area had a population of 1,973,664 while the total population is 4,579,536 when including Greater Santo Domingo. The city is coterminous with the boundaries of the Distrito Nacional, itself bordered on three sides by Santo Domingo Province.

The event was open for athletes from the invited countries, that are members of the Central American and Caribbean Athletic Confederation (CACAC), in two categories: Junior A Category: 17 to 19 years as of 31 December 2010, and Junior B Category: 14 to 16 years as of 31 December 2010. By IAAF standards, Junior A is equal to Junior, while Junior B is equal to Youth.

The women's football tournament at the 2003 Pan American Games was the 2nd. edition of the women's football competition at Pan American Games. It was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from August 2 to August 15, 2003. Six U-23 teams competed. The defending champion, the United States, did not defend its title. The South American teams played with their U-20 teams. For the second time the women's tournament was included in the Pan Am Games.

The United States claimed the bronze medal and Dominican Republic athlete Brayelin Martínez was awarded Most Valuable Player.

The song was composed by Bert Olden and Joachim Relin and was Jackson's first single released outside of North America. The track was recorded in the German language and released exclusively to German markets as a pop song. "Santo Domingo" became a commercial success in 1965 after reaching major chart positions in several European countries. It was later released on Jackson's 1967 compilation titled Made in Germany.
