Sara Yamaguchi (born 28 April 2008) [1] is a Japanese artistic gymnast. She is the 2023 Junior World all-around silver medalist and team champion. She is the 2022 Japanese balance beam and floor exercise champion.
Yamaguchi qualified for the floor exercise final at the 2021 All-Japan Event Championships and finished in seventh place. [2] Then at the 2021 All-Japan Team Championships, she helped her club, Cartwheel Gymnastics, finish in eighth place, and she finished seventh in the all-around. [3]
Yamaguchi finished tenth in the all-around at the 2022 All-Japan Championships. [4] She then finished eighth all-around at the 2022 NHK Cup, and she had the highest scores of the event on both the balance beam and floor exercise. [5] Then at the 2022 All-Japan Event Championships, she won the gold medal on both the balance beam and floor exercise. [6] She helped her club finish in fourth place at the 2022 All-Japan Team Championships, and she won the all-around bronze medal behind Shoko Miyata and Mana Okamura. [7]
Yamaguchi made her international debut at the 2023 Junior World Championships in Antalya, Turkey. The Japanese team of Yamaguchi, Mika Mizuno, and Haruka Nakamura won the gold medal by over two points ahead of the United States. [8] The team competition also served as the qualification round, and she qualified in first place for the all-around final and also qualified for the uneven bars and balance beam finals. [9] In the all-around final, she fell on her Yurchenko 1.5 vault and finished second behind her teammate Nakamura. [10] She then finished fifth in the uneven bars final and fourth in the balance beam final. [11]
Yamaguchi was in the lead after the first day of the 2023 All-Japan Championships with a total score of 54.566, almost a full point ahead of World champion Watanabe Hazuki. [12] However, on the second day of competition, she tore her ACL on her balance beam dismount. [13]
Anastasia Andreyevna Ilyankova is a Russian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, the 2019 European champion, and the 2019 and 2020 Russian champion on the uneven bars. She is a four-time FIG World Cup medalist, and she finished fourth on the uneven bars at the 2017 World Championships.
Andreea Eugenia Munteanu is a Romanian retired artistic gymnast. She is a two-time European champion, with a team title in 2014 and a balance beam gold in 2015. She competed at the 2014 World Championships.
Rebeca Rodrigues de Andrade is a Brazilian artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 Olympic, 2021 and 2023 World champion on the vault and 2022 World all-around champion. Andrade is the first Brazilian female gymnast to medal at an Olympic Games, and she is only the second Brazilian woman to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships silver medalist and the 2021 Pan American champion in the all-around, and won silver on the uneven bars at the 2021 World Championships, silver on the floor exercise at the 2023 World Championships, bronze on the balance beam at the 2023 World Championships and a bronze on the floor exercise at the 2022 World Championships. Andrade is one of only 11 female gymnasts to have medalled on every event in the history of World Championships, and one of only three gymnasts to have done so in the 21st century, alongside Simone Biles and Aliya Mustafina.
Aiko Sugihara is a Japanese female artistic gymnast. She was the 2015 Asian team and all-around champion and uneven bars and floor exercise silver medalist. She was also the 2019 Summer Universiade champion with the team and silver medalist on the floor exercise. She represented Japan at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games.
Ana Filipa da Silva Martins is a Portuguese artistic gymnast who competed at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She won a bronze medal at the 2015 Summer Universiade on the balance beam. She is the first Portuguese gymnast to win a World Cup gold medal.
Maellyse Brassart is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics and has qualified to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She has competed at five World Championships.
Georgia Godwin is an Australian artistic gymnast. She is the 2022 Commonwealth Games all-around and vault champion and the team, uneven bars and balance beam silver-medalist. She is also the 2018 Commonwealth Games all-around silver medalist and the team and uneven bars bronze medalist. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics and was the third reserve for the all-around final. She is also a two-time World Cup silver medalist.
Barbora Mokošová is a Slovak artistic gymnast. She is the 2020 European bronze medalist on the uneven bars and the first gymnast representing Slovakia to receive a medal at the European Championships. She represented Slovakia at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. She is also a two-time World Challenge Cup champion on the uneven bars.
Csenge Mária Bácskay is a Hungarian artistic gymnast and the 2018 Youth Olympic silver medalist on vault. Additionally, she was a member of the team that won bronze at the 2020 European Championships. She will represent Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Hatakeda Hitomi is a Japanese former artistic gymnast who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. She is the 2019 Summer Universiade champion in the team, all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam. She is also the 2020 American Cup all-around bronze medalist.
Emily Whitehead is an Australian artistic gymnast. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she won a bronze medal in the team event and on the vault. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics and is a two-time Oceanic all-around champion (2021-22). She is the 2015 Australian junior national all-around champion and a three-time national all-around medalist at the senior level. She won a silver medal on the vault at the 2018 Melbourne World Cup.
Ting Hua-tien is a Taiwanese artistic gymnast. She is the 2019 Asian champion and the 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist on the balance beam. She competed at the 2020 Olympic Games, making her the first Taiwanese female gymnast to compete at an Olympic Games since 1968. She has qualified to represent Chinese Taipei at the 2024 Summer Olympics through the 2024 FIG World Cup series.
Abigail Magistrati is an Argentine former artistic gymnast. She represented Argentina at the 2020 Summer Olympics after Martina Dominici, the original qualifier, tested positive for a banned substance. She is the 2021 Pan American team and floor exercise bronze medalist. She is the 2019 South American all-around and team champion and the 2022 South American balance beam champion. She is the 2022 Argentine all-around, balance beam, and floor exercise champion.
Miyata Shoko is a Japanese artistic gymnast. She is the 2022 World bronze medalist on the balance beam as well as the 2022 Asian Championships silver medalist on vault and floor exercise. She was set to represent Japan at the 2024 Summer Olympics, but on July 18, 2024, it was announced that she had to leave the team.
Haruka Nakamura is a Japanese artistic gymnast. She is the 2023 Junior World all-around and team champion. She is also the 2023 Junior Asian team, all-around, uneven bars, and floor exercise champion. She will represent Japan at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Caterina Gaddi is an Italian artistic gymnast. She is the 2023 Junior World uneven bars champion and all-around and team bronze medalist.
Yu Hanyue is a Chinese artistic gymnast. She is the 2023 Junior World balance beam champion and the 2023 Junior Asian team silver medalist.
