Sarah Degnan Kambou is president of the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW), a global research institute that focuses on making women integral to alleviating poverty worldwide. [1]

Biography

Kambou grew up in New Hampshire and received her education at the University of Connecticut and Boston University. [2] She cofounded and for eight years served as a director of the Center for International Health in the Boston University School of Public Health. [3] While there, Kambou directed intensive training programs for international health professionals, managed BU’s collaborative programs with Tongji Medical University in China and Tribhuvan University in Nepal, and consulted widely across South and Southeast Asia. [4]

Kambou later lived in sub-Saharan Africa for more than a decade, where she managed programs for CARE (relief agency). [5] There, Degnan Kambou focused on addressing social and economic vulnerability of marginalized populations, strengthening civil society in post-conflict settings and participatory development of underserved urban and rural communities. [6] She also established the CARE country office in Ivory Coast during the civil conflict and designed community-led reproductive health programs in post-conflict Rwanda, Sudan and Somaliland. [7]

Prior to being named president, Kambou served as ICRW’s chief operating officer, coordinating internal leadership and management functions, and leading the implementation of the organization’s restructuring and strategic review processes. [8] Earlier, as ICRW’s vice president of health and development, she oversaw research in HIV and AIDS, reproductive health and nutrition as well as in gender, violence and women’s rights. [9]

In 2010, Kambou was appointed by United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to represent ICRW on the U.S. National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). [10]

Kambou was honored in 2010 with the Boston University School of Public Health's Distinguished Alumni Award for her contributions to the field of public health. [11]

Kambou holds a doctorate in international health policy and a master’s in public health from Boston University. She earned her bachelor's degree in French from the University of Connecticut. [12]

Population Council

The Population Council is an international, nonprofit, non-governmental organization. The Council conducts research in biomedicine, social science, and public health and helps build research capacities in developing countries. One-third of its research relates to HIV and AIDS; while its other major program areas are in reproductive health and its relation to poverty, youth, and gender. For example, the Population Council strives to teach boys that they can be involved in contraceptive methods regardless of stereotypes that limit male responsibility in child bearing. The organization held the license for Norplant contraceptive implant, and now holds the license for Mirena intrauterine system. The Population Council also publishes the journal Population and Development Review, which reports scientific research on the interrelationships between population and socioeconomic development. EngenderHealth

EngenderHealth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., active in women's health and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) operating in nearly 20 countries Africa, Asia, and the Americas. The organization was established in 1943 and provided access to voluntary surgical contraception in the United States during its first 25 years. It has since expanded its mission to "training health care professionals and partnering with governments and communities to make high-quality family planning and sexual and reproductive health services available-today" and in the future.

The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) is a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, with a regional offices in New Delhi, India, Nairobi, Kenya, and Kampala, Uganda. ICRW has project offices in Mumbai and Hyderabad India. ICRW works to promote gender equitable development within the field of international development.

Dorothy Roberts

Dorothy E. Roberts is an American scholar, public intellectual, and social justice advocate. She writes and lectures on gender, race, and class in legal issues. Her concerns include changing thinking and policy on reproductive health, child welfare and bioethics.

Reproductive justice is "the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities," according to SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, the first organization founded to build a reproductive justice movement. In 1997, 16 women-of-color-led organizations representing four communities of color – Native American, Latin American, African American, and Asian American – launched the nonprofit SisterSong to build a national reproductive justice movement. Additional organizations began to form or reorganize themselves as reproductive justice organizations starting in the early 2000s.

Population Action International (PAI) is an international, non-governmental organization that uses research and advocacy to improve global access to family planning and reproductive health care. Its mission is to "ensure that every person has the right and access to sexual and reproductive health, so that humanity and the natural environment can exist in balance with fewer people living in poverty". PAI's headquarters is in Washington, D.C.

Geeta Rao Gupta

Geeta Rao Gupta is a leader on gender, women's issues, and HIV/AIDS who has been serving as Executive Director of the 3D Program for Girls and Women and Senior Fellow at the United Nations Foundation since 2017. She is frequently consulted on issues related to AIDS prevention and women's vulnerability to HIV and is an advocate for women's economic and social empowerment to fight disease, poverty and hunger.

Geetanjali Misra

Geetanjali Misra is the co-founder and executive director of Creating Resources for Empowerment in Action, a women's rights and non-governmental organization based in New Delhi. Geetanjali has worked at an activist, grant-making and policy levels on issues of sexuality, reproductive health, gender, human rights and gender-based violence. Presently, she is on the Amnesty International Gender Task Force, Spotlight Civil Society reference group and a board member of Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.

Seodi Venekai-Rudo White is a social development lawyer and women's rights activist. She is the Chairperson of the Network's Permanent Committee on Gender-Related Law. She was responsible for the enactment of the Malawi domestic violence legislation in 2006. In June 2006 she also headed a delegation that presented a report about Malawi's civil society to the United Nations CEDAM. Ravi Verma is the regional director for the International Center for Research on Women's Asia Regional Office and leads the organization's local and regional efforts on various aspects related to research, providing expertise in building capacity and participating in policy dialogue on issues that include adolescent girls, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and gender-based violence.

Sofia Gruskin is a scholar and advocate in the field of health and human rights whose contributions range from global policy to the grassroots level. For more than 25 years her work has been instrumental in developing the conceptual, methodological, and empirical links between health and human rights, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health, HIV and AIDS, child and adolescent health, gender-based violence, non-communicable disease, and health systems. Currently, Gruskin is a Professor at the Keck School of Medicine and Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California. Gruskin also directs the USC Institute for Global Health as well as its Program on Global Health & Human Rights and leads the USC Law & Global Health Collaboration with fellow professors.

Friday Okonofua born in 1955 FAS is a Nigerian professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
