Sarah Holt

Sarah Holt (born 17 April 1987) is a British athlete who specializes in the hammer throw, her personal best is 68.97m. [1] She was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. [2] Holt has represented Great Britain Athletics Team consistently since 2006. [1] She began athletics at the age of 12, competing for Spenborough and District Athletics Club. [2] She then went on to compete for Sale Harriers Manchester, [3] her current club. Career highlights include European U23 bronze medallist (2009), Double England Champion (2011, 2012) and Commonwealth Games representative (2010). [1] Holt attended Whitcliffe Mount School in Cleckheaton. [2] where she had academic success, achieving straight A grades at A-Level (geography, psychology, physical education). Her academics continued at Loughborough University where she gained a BSc in Geography and Sport science (2:1). [3]

Career

Junior career

Holt began athletics at the age of 12 where she broke the UK age 12 national record, throwing 22.40m. [4] Her training at this age was sporadic as she enjoyed participating in other sports and athletic events. In 2001/2, Holt was selected to represent England Schools, and was coached by Michael Morley. She had success at the English Schools Championships, achieving bronze, silver and gold medals (2003–2005). [1] Holt represented Great Britain U20 team in 2006, competing at the World Junior Championships (Beijing). [5]

In the under 23 age group Holt topped the British ranking for three years. [1] and broke the British under 23 national record. [3] In 2009, she threw 62.55m to gain a bronze medal in at the European under 23 Championships (Kaunas, Lithuania). [6] Holt was also selected as team captain for these championships. Her coach at the time was John Pearson.

Senior career

Holt was first selected to represent the British senior team in 2010 at the European Team’s Championships in Bergen, Norway. [7] She has continued her development and was a part of the European Championships team in Helsinki, Finland 2012. [2] In addition, Holt represented England at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Her current coach is Robert Weir. [1] who she has spent time training with in Eugene, Oregon, United States. [8] Holt has improved her personal best every year since 1999. [1]

Mara Rosalind Yamauchi is a British long-distance track and road running athlete. She currently holds the third fastest time by a British woman over the marathon, behind former world-record holder, Paula Radcliffe.

Marilyn Okoro British track and field athlete (born 1984)

Marilyn Chinwenwa Okoro is a British track and field athlete. She finished third in the 800 metres at both the 2007 and 2008 IAAF World Athletics Final. She was on the bronze winning 4 × 400 m relay at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She represented Great Britain at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and finished sixth (1:59.53 mins) in the semi-finals. She was part of the 4 × 400 m relay team which finished fifth in the final of the 2008 Summer Olympics although the team was later upgraded to bronze medal position following disqualification for doping offences of the teams finishing in third and fourth place.

Charles van Commenee, written in Dutch as van Commenée, is a Dutch athletics coach. Holly Bethan Bradshaw is a British track and field athlete who specialises in the pole vault. She is the current British record holder in the event indoors and outdoors, with clearances of 4.87 metres and 4.90 metres. Bradshaw won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also won bronze at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, gold at the 2013 European Indoor Championships, bronze at the 2018 European Championships, and silver at the 2019 European Indoor Championships. Sophie Hitchon is a retired British hammer thrower. She is the British record-holder with a throw of 74.54 metres, set when winning the Olympic bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Games, Great Britain's first ever Olympic medal in the event. She also reached the hammer final at the 2012 London Olympics, and is the 2010 World Junior Champion, the 2013 European U23 Champion, and the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson British heptathlete

Katarina Mary Johnson-Thompson is an English heptathlete. She won the gold medal at the 2019 World Championships and broke the British record with a score of 6,981 points, which ranks her at No. 6 on the all-time heptathlon lists. She also holds the British record of 5,000 points for the women's pentathlon and won gold in that event at the 2015 and 2019 European Indoor Championships, as well as the 2018 World Indoor Championships. In the long jump, she was the 2012 World Junior Champion and the 2014 World Indoor silver medalist. Hollie Beth Arnold, is a British parasport athlete competing in category F46 javelin. Although born in Grimsby, she now lives and trains in Loughborough. She represents Wales in the Commonwealth Games. Arnold was the youngest ever field athlete to ever compete in the Paralympics/Olympics, at the age of 14 at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing throwing a personal best. She also threw a personal best in 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. She took the gold medal in the F46 javelin in the 2016 Summer Paralympics at Rio, also throwing a new world record at the same time. In 2021, at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, she took the bronze medal. In 2018, she became the first ever Javelin thrower in history to hold all four major titles in the same Paralympic/Olympic 4-year cycle: Rio Paralympics and world record 2016, London World Championships and world record 2017, Berlin European Championships and course record 2018 and Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and world record 2018. She also holds four consecutive world titles: 2013 Lyon, 2015 Doha, 2017 London, and 2019 Dubai.

Beverley Jones is a Paralympian from Wales competing in category F37 throwing events. Jones won a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games as an EAD in the 100m sprint. Jones has qualified for four Summer Paralympics from 2000 to 2012 finishing fourth twice, in the sprint in 2000 at Sydney and in the shot put at Athens in 2004.

Daniel West is a British Paralympian track and field athlete competing mainly in category F34 throwing events. He has represented Great Britain in four Paralympic Games and has qualified for the team for a fifth time at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Hussong holds the European Championships record with her personal best throw of 69.19 m.

Maria Lyle is a parasport athlete from Scotland competing mainly in T35 sprint events. At the age of 14 she set a world record in the 200m sprint, a record she has broken on several occasions. In 2014, she qualified for the IPC Athletics European Championships in Swansea and won gold in both the 100m and 200m T35.

Adele Nicoll is a British shot putter, discus thrower and bobsledder. She has won multiple Welsh Athletics Championships events, and won the shot put event at the 2022 British Athletics Championships. She came second in the 2021–22 Bobsleigh World Cup event in Sigulda, Latvia alongside Mica McNeill. Nicoll was a reserve for the 2022 Winter Olympics, and is scheduled to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
