Sarah Hornung (born April 14, 1996 in Vaud) is a Swiss sport shooter. [1] She won a gold medal in the girls' 10 m air rifle at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, and then collected a silver on her senior debut at the 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, securing her a place on the Swiss shooting squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Hornung trains for the shooting team at the sport club Bueren an der Aare in her native Denges under her personal coach Roger Chassat. [2]

Hornung started off her competitive shooting career at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, where she took home the gold medal in the girls' 10 m air rifle with an impressive score of 207.8, beating Singapore's Martina Veloso by a slight 0.6-point margin. [3] [4]

On her senior debut at the inaugural 2015 European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, Hornung battled against the Serbian shooter and 2012 Olympian Andrea Arsović for the gold medal in the women's 10 m air rifle final, but narrowly missed a hit by a slimmest 0.1-point margin, ending up with a silver at a European junior record of 207.7. [5] With Arsović having previously booked her Olympic place from the World Cup series, Hornung earned a spot for the Swiss squad and is expected to compete for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won the bronze medal in the 25 metre pistol and was 35th in the 10 metre air pistol.

This article details the qualifying phase for shooting at the 2016 Summer Olympics. 366 quota places for the Games are entitled to the shooters coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated ISSF supervised Championships subjected to the ISSF rules from August 1, 2014, to March 31, 2016, while the remaining twenty-four are available to the eligible NOCs under the Tripartite Commission Invitation to get a total quota of 390. Host nation Brazil has been guaranteed nine quota places with one in each of the following events: 50 m rifle prone, 25 m rapid fire pistol, 10 m air pistol, 10 m air rifle (women), trap, and skeet.

A full-fledged member of the Lvov Army Forces, Leskiv trained for the shooting club under her personal coach Vadym Vysochyn.

István Péni is a Hungarian sport shooter. He won a bronze medal in boys' 10 m air rifle shooting, and also shared a top prize with Egypt's Hadir Mekhimar in the mixed international rifle team at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. Peni is also a member of the shooting team at Újpesti Sports Club in Budapest under his personal coach József Tóth and Edit Kissné Oroszi.

Yang Haoran is a Chinese sport shooter. He has collected a career tally of fourteen medals and broke eight world junior records in air rifle shooting at major international competitions, spanning the Youth Olympics, Asian Games, World Championships, and World Cup series. Having pursued the sport since age 12, Yang trained full-time as a member of the Chinese shooting team, at the sports academy in Chengde, under his personal coach and 2000 Olympic champion Cai Yalin.

Sabrina Sena is an Italian sport shooter. She has been selected to compete for Italy in rifle shooting at the 2004 Summer Olympics and has won a career total of three medals, one gold and two silver, in a major international competition, spanning the World Cup series and the European Championships. Sena is a member of her town's firing shooting range, and also, a resident athlete of the Italy national shooting team under Swiss-born rifle head coach and five-time Olympian Gabriele Bühlmann.

Valérie Bellenoue is a French sport shooter. She has competed for France in rifle shooting at three Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal on her debut in 1996. Outside her Olympic career, Bellenoue has won a total of fourteen medals in a major international competition, spanning the World and European Championships and the ISSF World Cup series.

Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. In 2019 she became Britain's most successful female rifle shooter of all time, winning five World Cup medals. She also became the first British Woman to rank World #1 for the 50m Rifle Three Position event and became European Champion in the 300m Rifle Prone event with an equal World Record score.

Mehuli Ghosh is an Indian sport shooter. She represents India at international junior shooting championships across the world. Among 123 competitors, she was the only Indian shooting athlete to reach the finals of the 2018 junior shooting competition held in the Czech Republic. She ranked seventh there. In 2018, at the XXI Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia, she won a silver medal in Women's 10m Air Rifle after a shoot-off with Martina Veloso. As of September 2023, she was ranked 36th in the world and 14th in Asia.

Jenny Stene is a Norwegian sport shooter. Her achievements include winning an individual silver medal and team gold medal in rifle shooting at the ISSF World Shooting Championships, as well as winning both individual gold medal and team gold medal at the 2023 European Games.

Jeanette Hegg Duestad is a Norwegian sport shooter. Her achievements include winning an individual gold medal in rifle shooting at the 2022 world championships, as well as team gold medals in 2022 and 2023.

Mari Bårdseng Løvseth is a Norwegian sport shooter. Her achievements include winning a team gold medal at the 2023 European Games. She was also part of the Norwegian teams who won a gold medal at the 2022 ISSF World Cup in Baku, and a bronze medal at the 2022 European 25/50 m Events Championships in Wrocław.
