Sarawak Music Awards is a music award held in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is divided into three major events that are given the most attention by the fans, media, and record companies in Sarawak. Shortlisted as the Anugerah Musik Dayak (AMD) awards, Anugerah Juara Rentak Ruai (AJARR) awards and the Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara (ACSJ) awards. Presented by different organization dedicated to promoting the diversity of music in Sarawak and to acknowledging the talents and contributions of the local entertainer.

Contents

The first music award is the Anugerah Juara Rentak Ruai (AJARR) presented annually by Cats FM radio station, a subsidiary of Kristal Harta Sdn Bhd since 2003 until 2012, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak . [1] [2] [3] The nominations were based on the first 12 songs which have been ranked at No 1 with the longest durations accumulated in twelve months and the winner will be judged by a group of professional jury. [4] The second music awards, Anugerah Musik Dayak (AMD) - Dayak Music Awards ceremony was held in 2008 in Kuching, Sarawak and continuously presented on every two consecutive years. [5] [6] [7] [8] [9] [10] The awards program was founded by Snowdan Lawan and managed by a nonprofit organization, Dayak Artistes and Musicians Association (DAMA). [11] The third music awards is the Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara (ACSJ) awards which is wholly owned and staged by the Sarawak Radio Televisyen Malaysia. From its inception in 2014 until 2017, the ACSJ awards ceremonies have been held in Dewan Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Betong, Sarawak on 21 June 2014, 19 September 2015, 2 September 2016 and 23 September 2017. Bidayuh Music Festival presented by the Bidayuh Artistes and Musicians Association (Bama). The event had considered for a music award that would have similar categories to the Anugerah Musik Dayak (AMD) and the first ceremony was held in 2015 in Serian with the support of Serian District Council (SDC). The Iban language is spoken by the Iban, a branch of the Dayak ethnic group, who live in Brunei, the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan and in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It belongs to the Malayic languages, a Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bidayuh</span> Ethnic group from Borneo

Bidayuh is the collective name for several indigenous groups found in southern Sarawak, Malaysia and northern West Kalimantan, Indonesia, on the island of Borneo, which are broadly similar in language and culture. The name Bidayuh means 'inhabitants of land'. Originally from the western part of Borneo, the collective name Land Dayak was first used during the period of Rajah James Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak. At times, they were also lesser referred to as Klemantan people. They constitute one of the main indigenous groups in Sarawak and West Kalimantan and live in towns and villages around Kuching and Serian in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, while in the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan they are mainly concentrated in the northern Sanggau Regency. In Sarawak, most of Bidayuh population can be found within 40 km of the geographical area known as Greater Kuching, within the Kuching and Serian Division. They are the second-largest Dayak ethnic group in Sarawak after the Iban and one of the major Dayak tribes in West Kalimantan.

"Jerat Percintaan"(in English: "Love Snare" or "Love Trap") is the first single and award-winning song performed by Malaysian pop singer Siti Nurhaliza. It earned the Best Song award at the Anugerah Industri Muzik in 1997.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Estranged (band)</span>

Estranged is a Malaysian alternative rock band that formed in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur in 2001. Currently comprising vocalist Rich Gimbang, lead guitarist Nor Hanafi and rhythm guitarist Din Hormatov, the band have released three full-length albums: In Hating Memory (2004), Remain Unknown (2008), Anugerah Hidup (2013) and an extended play (EP): Sepenuhnya Vol. 1 (2016). The band also have released a song called "Odoi" in 2018.

Cats FM is a private FM radio station airing from Jalan Bako, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. The radio covers areas of Sarawak and Brunei. The radio airs in Malay and Iban. The station used to air programmes in English and Mandarin Chinese.

Dewi Liana Seriestha is a Malaysian singer, model as well as beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Malaysia World 2014. She represents her country at Miss World 2014 at London, United Kingdom where she placed as one of the Top 25 quarter-finalist and also became the first Malaysian to win the Miss World Talent award.

Depha Masterpiece is a Malaysian rock musician, songwriter, arranger, and producer from Sarawak. He is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the Bornean hard rock band, Masterpiece.

Masterpiece is an Iban rock band, which formed in 2003 as Masterjam in Sibu, Sarawak best known for its hit singles, "Sinu", "Kumang Seari" & "Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai". The band comprises vocalist Depha Masterpiece, lead guitarist Willy Edwin, guitarist Kennedy Edwin, bassist Watt Marcus, drummer Harold Vincent, keyboardist Valentine Jimmy and Roslee Qadir. The group was renamed Masterpiece in 2005 after Depha was hired as the band's new vocalist. Drummer Roni and keyboardist Dellender Wilson and Timothy are former members of the band.

Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai is the fourth studio album by Malaysian rock band from Sarawak, the Masterpiece. The album consists of ten tracks and titled Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai reflecting the lead single title from the album. It was released on March 21, 2016 through Panggau Buluh Pengerindu in Sarawak and Johor. The album receiving the 'Album of the Year' award at the 2016 Dayak Music Awards while the lead single "Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai" has won the 'Song of the Year' award at the 2016 ACSJ Music Awards.

"Sinu" is a song by the Iban rock band Masterpiece. It was released in 2009 as the lead single from their first studio album, Merindang Ke Bintang. "Sinu" was Masterpiece's major single which helped to place them in the Sarawak music scene and the song has been recognized as one of Masterpiece's signature songs and has been covered on numerous occasions and shows. It was produced by Embat Lala, who produced the entire album under his record label, Panggau Buluh Pengerindu Records. "Sinu" has won the "Best Song" awards at the Anugerah Carta Rentak Ruai AJARR awards ceremony, represented by Cats FM on 21 May 2011 in Kuching, Sarawak.

Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai meaning "I hope you will come back" is a song recorded by Sarawak rock band Masterpiece. It was released in January 2015 as the lead single of their fourth album Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai. The song was released by Do Records Entertainment while the entire Ngarap Ka Nuan Nikal Pulai album was produced by Panggau Buluh Pengerindu Records on 12 March 2016.

Sarawak exhibits notable diversity in ethnicity, culture, and language. The Sarawakian culture has been influenced by Bruneian Malays of the coastal areas. Substantial cultural influences also came from the Chinese and British cultures.

"Bulat Ati Ku" is a song by the Iban rock band Masterpiece. It was included on their debut album, Merindang Ke Bintang and released through Panggau Buluh Pengerindu Records in 2009. "Bulat Ati Ku" has earned the band 'Best Music Video' award at the 2010 AMD 2010 music awards.

Watt Marcus, is a Malaysian rock musician best known as the bass guitarist of the Bornean hard rock band Masterpiece. Marcus joined Masterpiece in 2003 as the band's bassist, with whom he achieved mainstream success in the late 2000s.

Siku Dalam Seribu is a song written by Depha Masterpiece and recorded as a duet between him and singer, Allyssa Joanne or better known as Lyssa Jean. The lyrics essentially describes about a woman who learned to accept and open up to a new relationship after being hurt. She was told by the man, that she may not be his first love, but he promised her solemnly that he will love her unconditionally.
