The Schaghticoke Indian Tribe (SIT) is a state-recognized tribe in Connecticut. SIT is not a federally recognized American Indian tribe. SIT is not to be confused with the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation (STN), another state-recognized tribe in Connecticut from which SIT splintered away from.

History

The Schaghticoke Indian Tribe is a splinter group that split off from the larger Schaghticoke Tribal Nation in 1986. [1] Both groups are state-recognized in Connecticut and both have filed separate petitions for federal recognition. [2] SIT applied for federal recognition in March, 2022. [3] [4]
