Schneps Media [1] [2] is a 1985-founded media company [3] "that began with The Queens Courier." They own and operate both print and online news services. [4] The New York Times wrote in 2019 that Schneps publishes "more than 50 newspapers and magazines."

Their scoops are picked up by The New York Times. [1] In 2019 they acquired AM New York Metro from Newsday Media Group. [4] [5]

By early 2020 they had expanded their reach to Philadelphia. [5]

In May 2024, the company acquired Anton Media Group. [6] In July that same year the company acquired Blank Slate Media. [7]

Controversies

The Gothamist wrote "The company also publishes a promotional "newspaper" for Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, full of glowing stories about the borough president," sourcing it to a Schneps competitor, The New York Daily News . [5] [8] Gothamist also claimed, regarding Schneps reporters, that "the Schneps owners forced them to write sponsored content, while shielding advertisers and local officials from critical coverage."

The 2007 Brooklyn tornado was the strongest tornado on record to strike in New York City. It formed in the early morning hours of August 8, 2007, skipping along an approximately 9 miles (14 km)-long path, from Staten Island across The Narrows to Brooklyn. The worst damage was in and around Sunset Park and Bay Ridge, in Brooklyn. The U.S. National Weather Service estimated its strength there as an EF2 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

Citi Bike is a privately owned public bicycle sharing system serving the New York City boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, as well as Jersey City and Hoboken, New Jersey. OMNY is a contactless fare payment system, currently being implemented for use on public transit in the New York metropolitan area. George Floyd protests in New York City took place at several sites in each of the five New York City boroughs, starting on May 28, 2020, in reaction to the murder of George Floyd. Most of the protests were peaceful, while some sites experienced protester and/or police violence, including several high-profile incidents of excessive force. Looting became a parallel issue, especially in Manhattan. As a result, and amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the city was placed under curfew from June 1–7, the first curfew in the city since 1943.

The Democratic Party primary for the 2021 New York City mayoral election took place on June 22, 2021. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams defeated 12 other candidates, including Kathryn Garcia, Maya Wiley and Andrew Yang. Adams went on to defeat Republican Curtis Sliwa and other candidates in the November 2, 2021 general election.
