School of Medicine is one of the two departments of the School of Health Sciences, University of Patras.

The School of Medicine of the University of Patras was founded in 1977 and admitted its first students in October of the same academic year. During the functioning of 28 years, received a degree 2321 students Medicine and dozens another with MSc and PhD.

Staff

The Teaching and Research Staff (TRS) of the department consists of about 150 people (Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers). Members EIB / ACC, administrative staff is 36 people.

Building of preclinical functional

In the preclinical functional building houses the Department of Secretariat, offices of faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Laboratories, the Laboratory and Tutorial Rooms and various auxiliary rooms for students, where take place various events.

Library of the School of Medicine

The School of Medicine at the University of Patras have an independent library to be used from the student's community of the School. The library provides a reading room (150 seats), a copy machine with charge of use and computers. Users may also borrow books from the library as long as they have the library card.

As of 2021, 11 universities in Uganda offer medical schools. Admission to medical school requires the candidate to have attained a Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) as well as proficiency in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics at A-level standards. Training leading to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) lasts five years. Major examinations are conducted after the first, second and fifth year, with additional evaluations after each clinical rotation. Postgraduate training is available at Makerere University School of Medicine and other Public and Private Universities in a number of medical and surgical disciplines. The East, Central and Southern Africa College of Health Sciences is nowadays another alternative postgraduate training pathway in Uganda, such as Membership [MCS (ECSA)] and Fellowship [FCS (ECSA)] of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA); as well as in Internal Medicine through the East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (ECSACOP) and the College of Obstetrics and Gynecology of East, Central and Southern Africa (ECSACOG) for Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

The P.E.S. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PESIMSR) is the first and only medical college in the town of Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established on 11 September 2001.
