School of the Legends

School of the Legends, LLC (School of the Legends, SOTL or SOTLNFL) was founded in August 2009 as a private online community for current and former NFL athletes. The company is based in Nashville, Tennessee. SOTL is the Official Social Network and Training Partner of NFL Players, the marketing arm of the National Football League Players Association.

History

In January 2010, SOTL presented a plan of partnership to the NFLPA in Washington, DC and in June 2010, SOTL became an officially licensed partner. SOTL has filmed training classes with current and former NFL players, as well as organized live interviews with players. [1] As part of their football training system, "Legends in Training," the organization administers courses taught by NFL players such as Michael Vick, Jerome Bettis, and Larry Fitzgerald.

In September 2010 SOTL partnered with the NFLPA, Teamsters, and Feed the Children in New Orleans to assist 800 families affected by the destruction of 陳凱威wikion9. [2] SOTL is also an official partner of American Youth Football and Manning Passing Academy. [3]

An updated version of SchooloftheLegends.com (now inactive) launched in September 2011 along with mobile and iPad applications. [4]

December 2011, SOTL shot TV ad campaigns which featured Barry Sanders, Deion Sanders, Ray Lewis, Jerome Bettis, Chris Johnson and Cortland Finnegan.

School of the Legends has been dissolved and various assets incorporated into other ventures.

Members

The SOTL roster consists of thousands of participating players, also referred to as “Legends” within the organization. This number has grown from 500 registered NFL players in 2009 to 2,800 players today. Some of the professional athletes associated with SOTL are listed below:

Founded in 1956, the NFLPA is the second-oldest labor union of the four major professional sports leagues; it was established to provide players with formal representation to negotiate compensation and the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). The NFLPA is a member of the AFL–CIO, the largest federation of unions in the United States.

Jerome Bettis American football running back

Jerome Abram Bettis Sr. is a former American football running back who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 13 seasons, primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nicknamed The Bus, he was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft as the tenth overall pick. Bettis was a member of the Rams for three seasons before being traded to the Steelers, where he spent the remainder of his career. A six-time Pro Bowler and two-time first team All-Pro, he ranks eighth on the among NFL rushing yards leaders. He retired in 2006 after helping the Steelers win a Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XL, the franchise's first in over two decades. Bettis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.

A. J. Green American football wide receiver

Adriel Jeremiah "A.J." Green is an American football wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Georgia for the Georgia Bulldogs, and was drafted by the Bengals fourth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Eugene E. Parker was an American sports agent, known for representing Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and many other NFL athletes. Parker was named by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of the top 50 influential blacks in sports, and was ranked 45th in the Sports Illustrated list of the top 101 most influential minorities in sports. For many, Parker was known to be the first African-American lawyer to pioneer into sports representation and went on to become one of the great American sports agents. Parker, known for his integrity, is the only sports agent with an official road named in his memorial.

Bernie Parrish American football player

DeMaurice Smith American lawyer, labor leader, NFLPA executive director

DeMaurice F. "De" Smith is the Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). He was elected unanimously on March 15, 2009. As Executive Director of the NFLPA during the 2011 NFL lockout, Smith played a major role in helping the players and NFL owners come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement.

The 2011 National Football League Player lockout was a work stoppage imposed by the owners of the NFL's 32 teams that lasted from March 12, 2011, to July 25, 2011. When the owners and the NFL players, represented by the National Football League Players Association, could not come to a consensus on a new collective bargaining agreement, the owners locked out the players from team facilities and shut down league operations. The major issues disputed were the salary cap, players' safety and health benefits, revenue sharing and television contracts, transparency of financial information, rookie salaries, season length, and free agency guidelines. During the 18-week, 4-day period, there was no free agency and training camp, and players were restricted from seeing team doctors, entering or working out at team facilities, or communicating with coaches. The end of the lockout coincided with the formation of a new collective bargaining agreement prior to the start of the 2011 regular season.

Peter Schaffer is an American sports agent/lawyer who represents players in the National Football League, Major League Baseball, PGA Tour, the National Basketball Association, and the National Hockey League. He is founder and owner of Authentic Athletix, a Colorado-based sports agency, and is known for representing highly drafted players and marquee names. He also owns the Authentic Performance Center, a world-class athletic combine training facility in Denver.

NFLPA Collegiate Bowl College football All-star bowl game

The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is a post-season college football all-star game for NFL draft-eligible college players, held annually in January. The event was founded in 2012 by the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA). Players predominantly, but not exclusively, are from teams within the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

NFL Players Inc. organization

National Football League Players Incorporated is the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the National Football League Players Association. Formed in 2015, NFL Players Inc. facilitates the marketing of players as personalities as well as professional dancers. Notable partners include EA, Nike, and Pepsi.

The NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is a labor agreement which reflects the results of collective bargaining negotiations between the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and National Football League (NFL). The labor agreement classifies distribution of league revenues, sets health and safety standards and establishes benefits, including pensions and medical benefits, for all players in the NFL. The first collective bargaining agreement was reached in 1968 after player members of the NFLPA voted to go on strike to increase salaries, pensions and benefits for all players in the league. Later negotiations of the collective bargaining agreement called for injury grievances, a guaranteed percentage of revenues for players, an expansion of free agency and other issues impacting the business of the NFL. The NFLPA and team owners have negotiated seven different agreements since 1968.
