He headed the SPÖ from 2000 to 2008, and served as Chancellor of Austria from January 2007 to December 2008. Since then he has pursued a career as a consultant and lecturer, and as a member of supervisory boards of Austrian companies.

The Ducati 888 was a motorcycle manufactured by Ducati as an upgrade to the Ducati 851. The earlier 851 had introduced liquid cooling, computerized fuel injection and four-valve heads to the company's two cylinder motors. In 1991 Ducati increased the capacity of the 851 to 888 cc to create the 888. Both engines featured the Desmoquattro valvetrain concept in which a four valve per cylinder motor was given desmodromic valve actuation, with cams both opening and closing the valves. Ducati's desmodromic system reduces the frictional penalty from conventional valve springs.
Created in 1971, Louvain-la-Neuve Science Park is the first of its kind in Belgium and is the largest in Wallonia. It covers 231 hectares spread over the area of the municipality of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve and the municipality of Mont-Saint-Guibert.

Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (GxABT), located in Gembloux, Belgium, is one of the eleven faculties of the University of Liège. Founded in 1860 and previously known as the Faculté universitaire des sciences agronomiques de Gembloux, it is Belgium's oldest educational and research institution dedicated to agronomic sciences and biological engineering. It is the only school in Belgium to be accredited by the French Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur allowing the university to deliver the Diplôme d'Ingénieur engineering degree. The school is also accredited by the EUR-ACE label, the highest European quality label for engineering degree programmes at Bachelor and Master level.
BioLiège is a Belgian association of academic groups of the University of Liège (Liège) and several biotech companies comprising a biotechnopole. The association groups research and development in areas such as human medicine, pharmaceutical industry, toxicology, veterinary medicine, agriculture and plant biotechnology, water treatment, waste management, biodegradation control and the textile industry. Most of the biotech companies are located in the research park of Liège, close to the university campus of Sart Tilman.

The science park provides space and resources for high technology enterprises together with two nearby universities: Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, and the University of Namur. The site has 1.1 square kilometres on which 5 incubators and 9 business centers are located with 90 companies employing 1,400 people.
The Initialis Science Park is a business incubator and science park located in Mons in the province of Hainaut, Wallonia (Belgium). The science park is associated with the two universities present in Mons; the University of Mons and the University of Louvain. The science park comprises two technopoles: Multitel, which groups telecommunications, signal and image processing and Materia Nova, which groups research and development on new materials such a ceramics.
The Qualitis Science Park is a business incubator and science park of 250,000 square metres located in Enghien, Wallonia, (Belgium). The science park comprises three technopoles: food processing with the Agrofood Valley, Life Sciences and tourism. The science park was founded in 1996 with a focus on ICT and life sciences.

The University of Mons is a Belgian university located in the city of Mons, founded in 2009 by merging the Engineering Faculty of Mons (FPMs) and the University of Mons-Hainaut. The merging of the institutions was achieved following a geographical logic because of the high complementarity between them and their location in the same city.
