Career

Kirchner's first tournament win came at the 2002 Soft Tip Bullshooter World Championship where he beat James Harvey in the final. [1] He reached the final of the Soft Tip NDA World Championship a year later but lost against Alexander Kohler. [2] Kirchner won the event in 2008 by seeing off Stefan Nilles. [3]

He began competing in Dartslive Soft Tip events in 2012 and progressed through to the final of the Hong Kong event where Paul Lim beat him. [4] Kirchner made amends for this a year later by claiming the title in a win over Lim. [5] In 2014 he qualified for the 2015 World Championship by winning the World Dartslive Soft Tip Qualifier. [6] Kirchner enjoyed a 4–0 whitewash over Mark McGrath in the preliminary round and then proved to be an awkward opponent for world number four Gary Anderson, who struggled against Kirchner's slow pace of play. Kirchner lost the opening set in a deciding leg but leveled the match by taking the second without reply. Kirchner missed one dart at double 11 for a 124 finish in the decider of the third set and would go on to lose 3–1. [7]

He lost in the quarter-finals of the Korean Soft Tip Dartslive event in 2016. [8]

Kirchner Quit the PDC in 2017.

Playing style

Kirchner has a rare style of play; when coming to the oche to throw his set of three darts he will throw an imaginary dart at the board first before using that as a basis for throwing the three real darts. This greatly slows down his play and has been known to cause frustration to opponents that prefer a quicker style of play. [9]

Nine-dart finish Perfect leg in the sport of darts

A nine-dart finish, also known as a nine-darter, is a perfect leg or single game in the sport of darts. The object of the game is to score a set number of points, most commonly 501; in order to win, a player must reach the target total exactly and hit a double scoring area with their last dart. When the target is 501, the minimum number of darts needed to reach it is nine. For example, one way to achieve a nine-dart finish is to score 60 on each of the first seven throws, then a 57 on the eighth, and lastly a 24 on the ninth. It is regarded as an extremely difficult feat to achieve even for the sport's top players, and is considered the highest single-game achievement in the sport, similar to a maximum 147 break in snooker or a 300-point game in bowling.

Paul Lim Leong Hwa is a Singaporean professional darts player. He was the first player to hit a perfect nine-dart finish during the Embassy World Darts Championship, which he achieved in 1990 during his second round match against Jack McKenna. Lim won £52,000 for his nine-darter, which was £28,000 more than Phil Taylor won for winning the tournament. Lim's was the only nine-dart finish in a world championship match until 2009, when Raymond van Barneveld completed one against Jelle Klaasen. It was also the only nine-dart finish ever achieved at the BDO World Darts Championship.
