Scriptorium is the digital library of the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne, part of the University of Lausanne in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It was launched on 7 December 2012 and initially included more than a million pages of digitized newspapers published in Vaud canton. All of the content is freely available to the public and the site allows full-text search through its entire collection.

History

It was launched on 7 December 2012 by the Cantonal and University Library of Lausanne (BCU), part of the University of Lausanne in the Swiss canton of Vaud, [1] and initially included more than a million pages of digitized newspapers published in Vaud canton. [1] The initiative was done with the support of the Tamedia publishing group and the Swiss National Library, in an effort to preserve the history of the canton [1] [2] The first paper digitized was 24 heures and its predecessor paper Feuille d'avis de Lausanne. [1]

In their annual report, BCU reported 2,973,638 visits to Scriptorium Digital Library for its first full year of availability (2013). [3] As of 2022, there were 7.5 million pages in 120 titles. [4]

Features

All of the content is freely available to the public on the Scriptorium website. Scriptorium allows full-text search through its entire collection. [1] [5] The pages can be printed, sent by email or downloaded. Search can be done with keywords, dates or the specific publication. [4] [2]

Chillon Castle is an island medieval castle located on Lake Geneva, south of Veytaux in the canton of Vaud. It is situated at the eastern end of the lake, on the narrow shore between Montreux and Villeneuve, which gives access to the Alpine valley of the Rhône. Chillon is amongst the most visited medieval castles in Switzerland and Europe. Successively occupied by the House of Savoy, then by the Bernese from 1536 until 1798, it now belongs to the canton de Vaud and is classified as a Swiss Cultural Property of National Significance.

24 heures is a Swiss regional Swiss-French-language daily newspaper, published by Tamedia in Lausanne, Vaud. Founded in 1762 as a collection of announcements and official communications, it is the oldest newspaper in the world with uninterrupted publication.

Le Nouvelliste is a Swiss French-language daily newspaper, published in Sion, Valais, by the publishing company Éditions Le Nouvelliste SA. A regional newspaper for the Valais canton, it was established in 1903 in Saint-Maurice by Charles Haegler. At first, it was published three times a week, then became a daily newspaper in 1929.

L'Impartial was a Swiss French language daily newspaper published by Société neuchâteloise de presse SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton of Neuchâtel.
