The Seattle Flute Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It was founded in 1979 to present recitals, master classes, and other flute events for Seattle area flutists.
Members are amateur and professional flutists, teachers, students, flute makers, accompanists, listeners, patrons – anyone interested in the flute. Activities include meetings, ensemble performances, lectures, workshops, discussions, and solo performances by local and international flutists. The SFS sponsors a flute choir which is open to all adult members. Each year, the Flute Society holds a "Flute Festival" where instruments, music, accessories and other flute-related merchandise are exhibited, demonstrated and sold.[ citation needed ]
The SFS has sponsored performances and classes by flutists such as Claudia Anderson, Julius Baker, Jeanne Baxtresser, Leone Buyse, Tadeu Coelho, Michel Debost, Robert Dick, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Elena Duran, Jill Felber, Liz Goodwin, Jeffrey Khaner, Walfrid Kujala, Chris Norman, Amy Porter, Chris Potter, Paula Robison, Fenwick Smith, Alexa Still, Mimi Stillman, Gavin Tate-Lovery, Keith Underwood, Ransom Wilson, Trevor Wye, and more.[ citation needed ]
The SFS sponsors the Frank and Lu Horsfall Scholarship Competition each year for middle and high school students. [1] The competition has two divisions: upper (high school) and lower (middle school), with the 1st-3rd place flutists receiving prizes. [2]

Jean-Pierre Louis Rampal was a French flautist. Rampal popularised the flute in the post–World War II years, recovering flute compositions from the Baroque era, and spurring contemporary composers, such as Francis Poulenc, to create new works that have become modern standards in the flautist's repertoire.

It is an association in the United States with headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Members include soloists, orchestral players, jazz and world music performers, teachers, adult amateurs, and students of all ages.
Millbrook Magnet High School, commonly known as Millbrook High School (MHS), is a public magnet high school located in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is one of thirty-two high schools in the Wake County Public School System. In 2006, Millbrook finished the renovation of its campus which includes a new three-level building, a courtyard for students, and a larger cafeteria making MHS one of the largest and up to date facilities in the area. In 2009, Millbrook High School was granted International Baccalaureate status by the North Carolina Board of Education. The school was named a Magnet School of Excellence by Magnet Schools of America in 2020 and 2024 for its innovative curriculum, strong community building, and success in removing barriers to student success.

Valerie Coleman is an American composer and flutist as well as the creator of the wind quintet Imani Winds. Coleman is a distinguished artist of the century who was named Performance Today's 2020 Classical Woman of the year and was listed as “one of the Top 35 Women Composers” in the Washington Post. In 2019, Coleman's orchestral work, Umoja, Anthem for Unity, was commissioned and premiered by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Coleman's Umoja is the first classical work by a living African American woman that the Philadelphia Orchestra has performed.
