Second Skin is an American gothic rock band formed in 1991 by singer-songwriter Arron, the frontman of the Seattle-based band, Flesh of my Flesh. [1] Second Skin's sound has been described as "a culmination of punk aggression, early Gothic sensibility and Death Rock driven passions" with "hard rhythmic beats and dark backdrops." [2]

Gothic rock is a style of rock music that emerged from post-punk in the late 1970s. The first post-punk bands which shifted towards dark music with gothic overtones include Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, and the Cure.

Featured in Mick Mercer's Music to Die For, a listing of bands that were influential in the gothic rock scene, [3] as well as Oskar Terramortis' upcoming This is Gothic Rock book (to be released in 2013), [4] [5] Second Skin has played alongside Rozz Williams (of bands Christian Death and Shadow Project), the Mission UK, the Misfits, Killing Joke, Andi Sexgang, Gary Numan, Missing Persons, Modern English, Human Drama, The Damned, and New Model Army, [6] and has been featured on over 30 studio albums, EPs and compilations.

Rozz Williams American singer

Rozz Williams was an American vocalist, musician, artist, and poet most known for his work with the bands Christian Death, Shadow Project, and with the industrial project Premature Ejaculation. Christian Death is cited by some as a pioneer of the American gothic rock scene as well as deathrock. Williams was also involved with Daucus Karota, Heltir, EXP, Bloodflag, and Christian Death Featuring Rozz Williams, along with recording a handful of solo albums.

Christian Death is an American gothic rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1979 by Rozz Williams. The band became a highly influential act, heralding the American gothic rock and deathrock movements.

Second Skin's single "Liberata Me" inspired the film of the same name, Liberata Me, [7] which won best short subject at the New York Film festival. The film featured music and a cameo by Second Skin. [2] Director Pearry Reginald Teo then cast Arron of Second Skin to play the gatekeeper of purgatory in the follow-up, award-winning [8] film Children of the Arcana. [9]

Pearry Reginald Teo Zhang Pingli commonly known as Pearry Teo, is a Singaporean film director, screenwriter and producer. He is considered the first Singaporean movie director to make a Hollywood film.

Second Skin is also the first band to produce a darkwave/deathrock 3D music video. [5] [6]

Second Skin's latest release, Illa Exuro In Silentium, the band's fourth studio album, is the follow-up to the band's 2005 album Black Eyed Angel.

In August 2013, it was announced that Second Skin's fifth studio album will be released in the fall of 2013. [5]
