Secret Lab is an independent computer game developer based in Hobart, Australia. They are best known for their work on Night in the Woods, the Qantas Joey Playbox games, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Play School Play Time and Art Maker games.

Secret Lab's founders, Dr Paris Buttfield-Addison and Dr Jon Manning, are co-authors of more than 20 books for O'Reilly Media and For Dummies. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Secret Lab was slated to develop the Tiki Bar TV video game, Day of the Tiki. [6] [7] Secret Lab also developed the tie-in video games for Canadian superhero web series, Heroes of the North. Secret Lab also works on the critically acclaimed adventure game, Night in the Woods, building dialogue engine tools, and creating the mobile version of the game. [8]

In December 2010, Secret Lab's founders were jointly awarded one of Australia's most prestigious awards for technology, the Pearcey Award by then Premier of Tasmania David Bartlett. [9] Secret Lab was also awarded three Tas ICT Awards in 2010: "Success in Exporting ICT Solutions", "Excellence in Digital Media or E-Marketing" and the "Tas ICT President's Award for Excellence". [10] In 2013, Secret Lab received the Tas ICT Award for "Best Software Product" for their work on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Play School Play Time app for iPad. [11]

Secret Lab was responsible for the development of a number of popular iPad Applications, including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Foodi app for iPad, as well as the Play School Art Maker and Play Time apps for iPad. Both Foodi and the Play School Art Maker app were finalists for the 2011 Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA) Awards in the "Best Cultural and Lifestyle" and "Best Application on a Tablet or Mobile" categories, respectively. In 2013, Secret Lab's Play School Play Time app was a finalist for the AIMIA "Best of Tablet - Entertainment" and "Best of Tablet - Learning and Education" awards, and went on to win "Best of Tablet - Entertainment" and the overall "Best of Tablet" AIMIA awards. [13] Secret Lab's work for Qantas also yielded a 2016 iAward for "Mobility Innovation of the Year". [14] Co-founder Paris Buttfield-Addison received a 2016 "Gold Disruptor" award at the Australian Computer Society Reimagination Thought Leaders' Summit in Sydney. [15]

Tiki Bar TV is a video web series, or "vodcast". Each episode features a problem that is rectified by the episode's namesake cocktail, which is scribbled on a prescription pad by Dr. Tiki and "filled" by bartender Johnny Johnny who explains how to make the cocktail. Examples include the Suffering Bastard, Fog Cutter, Volcano Bowl, Boomerang, and Blue Hawaiian. The drinks did not always follow conventional recipes. Lala is the Tiki Bar's primary denizen who opens each episode with a dance. Most episodes also include a segment called "Tiki Mail," where mail from viewers or disgruntled neighbours is answered, and then ends with outtakes or the cast dancing. Originally shot in an apartment's tiki bar on a low budget, the humorous and heavily ad-libbed show was a creative outlet for its creators Jeff Macpherson and Kevin Gamble.

N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance is an action-adventure video game for the iPad and other Apple products made for Apple by Gameloft. It was released on December 17, 2009, for iOS, WebOS and is one of the games containing the Gameloft Live online gaming service. It was later released on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 on December 21, 2010, just five days after the release of N.O.V.A. 2. N.O.V.A Legacy, a remaster of the original N.O.V.A. developed by Gameloft Madrid, was also released for Android on the Google Play Store in 2017 and on iOS App Store in 2018.

<i>Contre Jour</i> 2011 video game

Contre Jour is a physics-based puzzle video game for web browsers, Windows Phone, Blackberry, Android, iOS and Symbian. It was developed in 2011 by Ukrainian developer Mokus and published by Electronic Arts through its label Chillingo. The art for the game Contre Jour was created by artist Mihai Tymoshenko. The soundtrack for Contre Jour was composed by David Ari Leon. The game focuses upon a little blob named Petit, a reference to Le Petit Prince, whose means of locomotion is to be manoeuvered around by manipulating his environment through the various areas of the game using the touch screen.

The iPad is a tablet computer, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the third device in the iPad line of tablets. It added a Retina Display, the new Apple A5X chip with a quad-core graphics processor, a 5-megapixel camera, HD 1080p video recording, voice dictation, and support for LTE networks in North America. It shipped with iOS 5, which provides a platform for audio-visual media, including electronic books, periodicals, films, music, computer games, presentations and web browsing.
