Big Brother is a reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999 and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show features contestants called "housemates" or "HouseGuests" who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. There will be a 24-hour channel, however this time it'll be exclusive of NOS. The final prize money for the winner is €20,000.

BB2020 was announced on 30 November 2019 by TVI, as a celebration for the twentieth anniversary of Big Brother.

It's the second original format of Big Brother to air in 2020, one month after the fifth season ended on 2 August 2020. It was also revealed on 5 July 2020 during the live eviction show that the audition for Big Brother 6 was open and the show will be called "Big Brother: A Revolução". The show is featuring a new format and rules, housemates will have to be more interactive and competitive in the house if they want to win.
